I finally got tired of digging through the back shelves of every gun store I walk into for .284 Win ammo. My father has collected nearly every piece of brass he has fired from the rifle since his father gave it to him in 1969. Last time I was visiting my parents, I realized that I only had 6 cartridges left…I decided to go out to the garage and  locate his secret stash of .284 brass he has acquired over the last 40 years and haul it back to Lubbock to get what has now become my rifle ready for the upcoming deer season. Resized and trimmed all of the cases, out of the 101 cases, 1 had a split neck but otherwise they all look pretty good (nothing that can't be fixed with a little more time spent in the tumbler). Looking for a good starting load for the rifle, keep coming up empty. I've only ever shot deer with the rifle, I don't really like to take it to the range and shoot it but I really need a decent starting point for this old M88. Any suggestions or tips would be helpful.

Found this in my favorites list. It is a McAfee approved site too. I think this is exactly what you are looking for.

The above address takes you directly to the Model 88 data for .284 Win. The "HOME" site is "LOAD DATA.COM"
It didn't copy and paste here as a link but if you copy and paste it into your web browser it will work. I just tried it.

What does the data in your reloading manual say?

Hodgon's on line data has 3 or 4 dozen loads.

AeroE,
I think he wants Model 88 data specifically. It is a pretty old and I believe lever action rifle. The address I posted is data for the M88 in .284 Win caliber.

zapzap really should get a reloading manual, that's the message.

Or search the on line data. For links, look in Links.

Any load quoted on the internet should be checked against published data, hence the need for a reloading manual.

This includes any load I may give out.

If there are concerns about the strength of his action, then begin with start loads and end up with the mid range load.
