I've got a Recce 7 in jail which should be clearing out soon but I'm thinking about getting a Recce 5 also. Can anyone with both, or have shot both care to chime in? Is it worth getting the 5 after the 7? These would be going on everything from an 18" rifle down to a 10.3" SBR. Thanks.

Well my Recce 7 will NOT be out of jail soon - June pending date.

I would probably buy a M4sd of some flavor for a 2nd GA rifle can. I've had my eye on a A2 can for a while

I too have a Recce 7 in jail. Silencer Shop told me that the 7 was the 2nd quietest 223 can they have shot. Didn't mention what was #1.
With that said, I would look at something that would use the same Tapered Mount that the 7 uses. That way your not buying more DIFFERENT mounts and can move the cans around and keep the mounts the same.
The Tapered Mount works with the Recce, ALPHA, and Sportsman Silencers
Just my .02

I've read that the 7 and the 30sd have the same internals, would that mean that the 30sd is also elite tier quiet or would it being QD instead of thread cause a difference
?

They will sound similar, but the recce 5 is shorter and lighter.    In a perfect world every perfect thing is great to have, but we're value minded people and I personally would probably be tempted to use the Recce 7 I already have.

For what it is worth the Recce 5 was the quietest 556 silencer that we have ever metered.

Having said that they is only about a 3 db difference in the Recce 7 and Recce 5. The main savings is weight an length.

All your 556 tests are in 16", right?
Ever considered throwing 11.5" in there?

I have been extremely happy with my Recce 5 Mod 3 suppressor.   Its quieter than my Trek and has much less back pressure.    The Taper Mount brakes are retard proof and eliminate worm out latches, broken pins and wobbly mounts.    They lock up solid and dont loosen unless you want them to.

My Recce 7 is approved, I pick it up Sunday. I tried to order a Recce 5 before the deadline, but SS didn't receive any before the clock struck 12.
But I do have a M4SDK and M4SD in hand .

ETA: The Recce 5 is the one can I really wish I would have bought. I'll probably will order one next year.

I was debating kinda he same thing. I went with the Alpha and will just change the end caps.
Also, my Optimus is as quite as my 762SND-6
