| I plan on using SBR to hunt with. I would like to use both super and subsonic ammo. I need it to be accurate on both for hunting purposes. What barrel length would you go with. |

Barrel length and accuracy are not dependent on one another. Barrel length and muzzle velocity are. Obviously, the slower the bullet is traveling, the faster it will fall, causing a larger shift in hold over. I'm assuming that since you are shooting subsonic ammunition, you will be using a suppressor for this rig. You will need to know your POI shift with the suppressor on vs. it being off and make note of this with whatever optic you plan on running. I would ask what is the maximum range that YOU would feel confident engaging your target. After that I would look at the muzzle velocity data from respective barrel lengths and ask yourself if you are comfortable giving up that velocity AND energy in the round. If you are, will the round still be capable of being effective on target? I do not know anything about the 300 blk round, but these are the questions my instincts are telling me to ask initially, and then proceed with the build respectively. |

Quite honestly barrel length has little if anything to do with accuracy....except a faster bullet has a flatter trajectory. I think I am about 200ish fps difference in my specific loads from a 8.5 inch barrel to my 16 inch. And I am sure the energy is relatively the same at shorter distance yet, at longer shots the 16 inch would have more energy as distance increases. I would spend the money on a solid and reputable barrel - Wilson Combat, Noveske, PWS, Green Mountain, etc. although many have produced good results on PSA and such. What distance will you be shooting? |

Thanks for the reply. There will be a suppressor on it for both rounds and max range would be 150 and closer with super and 100 with wsubs Depending on what type of game you are pursuing with this rifle, you won't even need a magnified optic for such ranges in my opinion. Zero your rifle at the range you want to, then just shoot at 50, 100,and150 to learn your POI with and without suppressor, and adjust on the fly depending on distance. I would suggest using an Eotech since you can use that 65 MOA ring to assist you in calculating the range since you will know the size of the game you are pursuing. This wont be as accurate a tool as a mildot scope, but will help to an extent. If you are shooting small game, such as prairie dogs or ground hogs at this range, I would question the need for a round such as 300 blk |

Yep, like Gary I would say an 8.5 would be ideal. I am not sure I would go any shorter personally.
You will be golden and still be a bit better than 2000 fps and see little drop at your max with 125 grain suppressed or un. If you are building yourself now is a good time to buy barrels - PSA has a 8.5 for 69.99 but, honestly I would spend another 30.00 for a KAK barrel. They are Green Mountain Blanks and they have an overrun sale on 8.5's now for 100.00 I just ordered 2 of them. KAK |
