| I am starting to load for the 308 AR and need a primer recommendation. Thanks |
| When I started loading 308, I could only find 34s, I was told 200s are fine. I realized after first cleaning in my Armalite that 34s are overkill since the BCG has a spring to prevent firing pin causing slam fires.. Not sure if all 308's have that but if yours does, you are safe to use any imo. Well, maybe not feds. And I would add new Winchesters since I know they thinned the cup at some point. |

Is it just me being confused, or am I seeing a bunch or recommendations for SMALL rifle primers where the OP requested recommendations for a cartridge that uses LARGE rifle primers?
Large rifle primers are all the same thickness (within about 0.001" anyway). http://www.jamescalhoon.com/primers_and_pressure.php |

CCI 34 and CCI 200's are both large rifle. Where do you see small rifle?

Personally, let your gun do the talking!
I have shot thousands of WLR and Fed 210M through M1A, DPMS LR, and M1 Garands, and HK91 all in 308. Some people seem think they need a mil spec primer....which is NOT TRUE. What you need is t work up a reliable, accurate, and safe load for your gun. |

Still get major cratered primers and primers starting to pop out with plinker loads. I had that problem in Garand. Stopped using them. I read that they changed them. I just don't trust them anymore. I wouldn't think to use them in my AR10. But hey, like you said, every gun is different. My loads on both rifles are low. My primers are deep. I am not over swaging. It's the primer. Don't have the problem with my remington or CCI primers. |

I use the RCBS press mounted primer pocket swager, no cutting of the pocket like with most hand tools |
