| What kind of scope does everyone run? Well those of you that do run scopes, fixed, scout, or ? I will be mounting mine on receiver but not sure if I'm going 4x fixed or an adjustable power. |

God bless Wyr X2 (although mine's not a Leupold , its a 3-9x40 mounted up on my Guide Gun –– works great) |

On lever actions, I like the size and weight of NO scope. ![]() In my callow youth I used that rifle to take a number of deer with iron sights. Now that my eyes are getting older not better I put a scope on it. I do prefer the handling of it with no scope but things change; I need a scope to evaluate antler size. |
| Being over 50 I do understand the iron sight issue. I can still get away with a peep for something like 100yd shooting, a regular leaf rear sight - those days are gone. I would recommend a pair of bino's for glassing animals (if you don't do that already). In theory if you are hunting private property that shouldn't have anyone else on it I guess using your scope shouldn't be an issue. Public land; I would be uncomfortable using a scope before glassing the area with a pair of bino's. |

Public land; I would be uncomfortable using a scope before glassing the area with a pair of bino's. I hunt on 450 acres that I co-own with another family member that lives out of state. Nobody else is supposed to be on it. It's densely wooded and deer appear and disappear very quickly...typically there is no time to use binoculars. I usually don’t hunt from a stand, I use a walk and wait method of hunting, although as I get older I do less walking and more waiting. I hunt for trophies and don't want to waste a tag on a small rack; it's often a split second decision. I own a variety of rifles that can be used for deer hunting; I only use the Marlin out of nostalgia and not that often. I really hate that I had to put a scope on it but it was either that or put it away for good. |

I have several scoped Marlin lever guns.
.357 Weaver 1-3x .44 Burris 4x Mini (probably my favorite scope for a lever gun) .30-30 Sightron 4x compact .45-70 old Weaver 2.5x .45-70 Leupold 3x I have a Weaver Classic Extreme 1.5-4.5x illuminated reticle that will be going on one of the .45-70s for night time hog hunts. If Natchez has any of them left, the Nitrex 1.5-5x scope would be a dandy on a levergun. Several folks over on the Marlin Owners site are happy with the Bushnell Banner 1.5-5x scopes on their 336's, this would be a cheaper option. |
