| Well, after 372 days of waiting I finally brought my new toy home with me. I picked up a factory Colt M-16A2 Commando. The gun came out of an estate and we had a lot of problems with the executor of the estate. We had some hold ups with the ATF as well, but with some hard work put in by my dealer, the issue has been resolved and the transfer has been approved! I'll be sure to post pics soon. Anyway, this is my first machinegun so I'm quite excited at the time being. Now I just have to find a way to feed it... |
Why the long delay...? |
| The reason I got such a good deal is because the gun came out of an estate. The previous owner died and I had to deal with the executor of the estate. Well, there was a guy that bought the whole estate and she just signed off on the transfers. The M-16 was one of the items. She got her money and signed all of the paperwork at the time. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the guy who originally wanted the M-16 and it couldn't transfer. Once this is worked out, this guy who bought the lot puts it back on the market (and my dealer is good friends with the guy, so he told me about it). I agree to buy and we start the paperwork. Well, by this time...the estate has long been closed out and this lady doesn't know what is going on. She forwards everything we send her to the estate lawyers who promptly throw it away because they have already been paid and are no longer involved. It takes the first 9 months to track her down and get a signature on the form from this executor. Now frustrations with ATF arise. The executor is not in Arizona (the deceased owner and the gun are) and the ATF says that they cannot transfer from an individual in one state to an individual in another, so they send everything back to the executor. We finally get a hold of her and she says if we send her a self addressed stamped envelope she'll send the paperwork back to us. We do...twice! This bright lady does not even have to lick the envelope. All she has to do is put paper inside, peel tab for adhesive, seal, and drop in mail box. She proceeds to take our envelope (which we had to send twice because she didn't realize she got the first one) and cut the return address off of it and glue it onto her own envelope. She then takes both stamps off of our envelopes and glues those on as well and mails her own envelope back. I still cannot understand this part. Anyway, we get the paperwork back and the argument with ATF ensues. My dealer (GREAT GUY!!! and I would definitely recommend him to anyone in the Tucson area as he is the only reason this ever got resolved) talks to whoever he knows at ATF about the situation and the other transfers from the estate, and 372 days after I initially signed the contract saying that I would buy the rifle, I get to bring her home. h |
