Heres the lay out im using on my dillon 550

Ranier 158 grain JHP .38 caliber
Win 231 3.7 grains
CCI primers

My question is whats the best OAL on a .38 caliber load.. I have the general info from reloading manuels that says 1.55 is the safe OAL but when I started with this load it was real weak so I rolled it back to 1.50 OAL and that picked up the load some. I was wanting to ask fellow reloaders what there load info was like?  Is there something Im doing wrong here??
Thanks

Hornady 7th lists 1.450 as OAL
Lyman 49th lists 1.480 as OAL

Sounds like your in the ballpark on the safe side of things.

Are you loading JHP's or plated bullets?

I suspect plated.

For plated bullets use cast bullet data.

On jacketed bullets I seat deep enough so the case mouth is centered in the crimping groove.

Lead bullets are seated so the crimp aligns perfectly with bullet's groove.

Overall lengths can be different based on bullet manufacturer.
