If I plan to load wadcutters, do i need to buy a special die?

I just loaded some SWC with my Lee 4 die set and had no issues.

There are some special dies made for loading wadcutters, but the only difference is that the mouth of the die has more flare to help get the case into the die. All you will need is a wadcutter seating punch for a standard die set.

Use the SWC seating punch that came in the die set, it will work equally wel for wadcutters also.

Most 38 special die sets come with a seater designed for wadcutter bullets, or a SWC seater will work fine.

just an 'FYI' for you,OP
My experience with full wadcutters has been that SOME guns shoot equally well with either hollow base or double ended bullets...and some show a DISTINCT preference for one or the other.I have no explanation.

Well, it'll depend on how @%@# you happen to be about your seating stem.  IIRC.....mine (purchased in the '80s) came with a single seater for RN bullets.  I've used it with RN, SWC and WC bullets.

That being said.........I saw a "new set" the other day that came with several different seaters included.

If you buy Dillon dies they have a double-ended seater for just this reason.  They also are removable for cleaning without losing the die adjustment, as wad cutters tend to be messy due to the lube.  IMO Dillon dies are well worth the little extra $$.
