HK does not currently sell a 416 upper to non LE/mil.

That said, the current iteration does work on standard lowers (with use of their buffer, standard hammer and spring).

Quite a few are making thir way out, and YES you can get you hands on them. Expect to pay $3k+

LEO's pay like $1500 +/- for the rifle, trash the lower, and sneak the upper out to sell for $3k by itself.
Check the boards at hkpro.com they come up for sale from time to time.

It was more than I wanted to spend. It was an 9 inch barrel. To short for me to have in California.
Thanks again for your input.

What's a bogest post?

I'm not sure if its the same post he is referring to but a handfull of uppers (10?) was being sold(sold out now). They were asking $4000 each. It was on HKPRO and some of the guys were trying to get in on it. I also am new to AR's in general, so my newbie question is, if the 416 upper can't fit on a AR lower what kind of lower will and where would you get it from? Does anyone know the going rate to a LEO/MIL. person for a 416? $1500 just seems a bit low for a HK, but then again, it is a LEO sale.

416 is a drop on.

A NEW complete 416 is about $1700.

Where do you people get your info????  LEO's do NOT... I REPEAT.. NOT buy the 416's....  a police department or agency can, not an individual officer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There are DEALERS that buy them, and trash the lower and sell the parts....

Why would anyone "trash" the lower?  What's wrong with it compared to standard AR lowers from DPMS, Colt, etc?

Fully Automatic.

They also probably "trash the lower" because it has the serial number. No FFL mess when you're dealing with just the upper.

If Hk loved me, they'd sell me a Hk 416 16" upper in 6.8 SPC flavor.

Since they could apparently care less, I'm much more inclined to go after an LWRC SRT in 6.8 SPC flavor. It's expensive but atleast it's available.
