I am getting ready to start loading 45 and have a few powders on hand and would like you opinions on which ones would be good to work with. I have Ramshot Zip, True Blue, and Silhouette and Hodgdon Titegroup. Was thinking of starting to work some loads with True Blue and Zip to start with, but would like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance Scott |

I have never used Zip. I understand it's a fast burning powder, and should work fine.
True Blue is a great powder for full powered jacketed bullet loads. TiteGroup is excellent. One caution when loading pistol rounds, it's possible to get 2 powder charges into a case and seat a bullet. (BAD!) So pay attention to what you are doing and look down into the cases to check charge level before you seat bullets. |

Only one of those I've used is Titegroup. Used a heck of alot of it though, it's great for .45ACP (and many others).
What dryflash said, be a bit cautious, as Titegroup is one of those fast-burning, "more bang for your buck" powders, it IS possible to double-charge with it, a standard load doesn't fill the case up that much. Just be careful, as with ALL reloading, and you'll be fine. |

I haven't used the other two, but I love Tightgroupe.
+1 on what the others said about checking every round before seating the bullet. Most of what I load for .45ACP is anywhere from 4.2 to 5.2 grains and that only fills less than half to maybe just half the case, so it is easy to double charge. Watch those loads. |
| You can quadruple a charge in a 45acp case and still seat a bullet using TiteGroup. . Titegroup is the only pistol powder I use in 32acp, 38spl, 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp. If you rleoad you'll need to develop the discipline of putting an eyeball in every round. Reloading is relaxing but not exactly casual. One Ka Boom and you'll know what I mean. |

I've used Bullseye and 231 for NRA 2700. Sometimes VV N310 or N320 when I'm rich enough to afford Nosler 185 JHP's.
All the fast pistol powders work well with .45 ACP up to 50 feet. When going past that distance, it's best to load up some test strings and then spend a nice summer day with your gun in a Ransom Rest at 50 yards. |

Thanks guys! I have been using Titegroup for 9mm and TAC for .223 for some time and have just picked up a 45. Sounds like Titegroup is the common choice. I think I will work up some loads with it and True Blue and see what works out. I have some Montana Gold 200 gr JFP probably use the Titegroup and Zip with them and use the True Blue with the Zero 230 gr. JHPs Appreciate the advise Scott Edited for clarification sounded like I was using Titegroup for .223 |
