| I have never reloaded 45 before. I have done 9mm and .38 successfully. I was depriming the brass i had been saving up tonight to prepare for my first batch of 45 and noticed that my federal brass was primed with small pistol instead of large like everything else. My question is should i prime these with small pistol and keep on chugging along or should i just seperate and chuck them? I am mainly concerened that small primers might not work well with the powder i am using (unique) or that it will require a different load. |
| The small primer actually work ok. If you have a progressive press, it is just a pain in the neck, so I sort them out. After 100 successfull years of large primer .45acp, someone had to throw a wrench in the works. ***** A side note Winchester has the NT (non Toxic) ammo with a small primer. It is also a crimped primer and the flash hole is a lot larger. I have reamed out crimped primer military brass before, but that oversized flash hole makes me think it would get too much back pressure, so I just pitch them. Good Luck |

all i use is the small primer including the winchester nt with no problems. i specifically bought the small primer because when i got into 45 everything else i was loading
used small primers so it simplified loading for me. i have a 1000 or so large primer just sitting on the shelf that i don't use. |
