| I loaded up some 200 gn speer gold dot hp using unique 6.7 gn of powder. In 2 different books it shows 7.1 max in one and 6.7 max in another. Has anyone done this exact load? Im going to use it for ccw. Im fed up with substandard factory stuff and really trust my own before i will any other. |
| Use load data by Unique fi they have a load for that powder. I always use load data from the powder manufacturer. I had once used from the Lyman manual for .40s&w and the starting load for AA#5 was above Accurate's maximum. If not Unique's load data, check a couple more manuals and go with loads that are listed in at least two books, if not three. |

You worked up to that load, or just picked a load out of a reloading manual?
All the manuals will vary some, but all give a start load. Speer 14, page 971 lists 6.5 grs Unique as the start load, so you should be ok if OAL is to spec. Also shows 7.3 grs of Unique as max with a 200 gr GDHP. The OAL given is 1.200. I hope you didn't use a shorter OAL. A short OAL will raise pressures. Good luck |

The 200 grain bullet has expansion issues unless loaded to +P, and even then it's marginal.
Speer #14 lists 7.3 grains Max of Unique for the 200 grain GDHP. This is a case where I would defer to the bullet manufacturer's data. I load the 230 grain with 5.6 grains of H. Universal. Speer shows 6.0 as max, but I was getting almost 1100 fps (still no noticeable pressure signs ) but I backed it down. 5.6 with Win primers gave me about 20 fps more than factory Gold Dots.
