| Bought a "live" .50bmg round and need to dissasemble it. What is the safest way (minus specialized bullet puller) that I can pull the bullett and empty the powder within? |

Are you trying tosave the brass, or the bullet and powder? If you don't mind stretching the neck a little, you can actually do it by hand (literally). grab the case in one hand and the bullet in the other, and put your thumbs on the neck and bend it at the neck. If you alternate sides with this bending force, it will get loose. Repeat as necessary until you can pull the bullet free. I've done a dozen or so this way. If you want to spend money on a tool that will do it without hurting the brass, look at www.ch4d.com and look for a collet puller. |
If you are puting the "live primer" back in......just realize you should still treat it as a live round. Also sometimes the bullet can be seated pretty tight especially if you can see that there may be sealant around the neck. In this case go ahead and give the tip a swift rapp from a hammer and some wood in between (not too hard now, you dont want to lose the bullet or get it stuck). This will dislodge it from the sealant and make the bullet easier to pull. Hope this helps. ETA: I personally would use a spent case so you dont have to worry about a primer "popping" |
