I need the data from Sierra for this bullet. My local shop is out of the Sierra manual so I couldn't pick one up today.

Do they have an accuracy load for this bullet?

Also does this bullet tend to like being pushed fast? I've noticed all the heavy bullets I've tried like to be pushed near max SAAMI specs for best accuracy.

My not so secret load for the 52 gr MK in .223 Remington is a case full of RE-15, 27.0 or 27.2 grains.  This fills the case to just barely below the mouth of the case.  Speed is a little over 3200 fps.  This is a great bullet that will shoot well with any suitable gunpowder.

Try sending an email to Sierra customer support.  They have several full time employees that answer email and phone calls.  You can also look on line for data from Hodgon, Alliant, Accurate, and so on.  There are links in the References.

I'm going to be using Varget and Hodgdon doesn't have any data for a 52 gr SMK. I just wanted to see what Sierra had to say before working with data for a 55 gr fmj.

I had great results with the 52gr. Sierra and Win 748 powder.

I use VARGET for heavy(77) bullets.

I've had good results with IMR 4895.

Looking at my manuals it appears I'll need a new powder for the lighter bullets. I'll see what my local shop has in stock next week and go from there, I saw RE-15 today, so hopefully that's still around.

52 grain bullets are about the lightest you'll want to shoot with RE-15.  But, you can use it all the way to 80 grains in .223 Rem, too.

This data for Varget in .223 Rem comes from the Hodgon #27 manual for the 53 grain Sierra HP:

start load:  24.0 grains for 3026 fps
max load:  27.0 grains for 3389 fps in a 24 inch barrel.  This load is compressed.

Varget and RE-15 are nearly identical capacity wise in this case for bullets of this weight; i.e., the case is full of gunpowder at the maximum load.

This is why I love this site. Thanks for that data. I will see what Varget does with this bullet. I am always looking for new things to play with, so I'll find a good load with Varget and then try a different powder to see what happens.

Guess where I found that link in the first place
With the 52 SMK I have had great luck with Reloder 7 at around 2950fps.
