| There are 5 samples right now and a few of them have 12000 rounds thru them without problems. Yes later into next year there will be a folder. The first retail sales rifles will ship around Jan. and they will all be 16" collispable stock models. Also there are going to be different calibers down the road. SIG is going BIG with this project. SIG has for the last few years done more special makeup pistols than most companies. I think this shows that they will not stand still on the 556 they will devolp more models. |
| One of the people who was on the 556 development team told me yesterday that the final version of the initial (Tapcoesque?) 556 was at photography and pics *may* be made public next week. He also said that he expects the initial shipments to begin in November. Last week one of Sig's customer service people told me that 100 units had already gone out to media folks for reviews. |

It was a big mistake to redesign the rifle, it looks like a cheap AR clone now. On a separate note, what is up with their website? The homepage is a friggin' credit card sales pitch. Lame. www.sigarms.com/ |
Wouldn't they best gauge the market by offering a choice? If they just offer the Sig 556 by Tapco and no one buys it, they may think no one wants the rifle at all. |
| Sig listened to everybody's feedback and will offer the much-bemoaned prototype with some tweaking (they removed the raised rail among other things) along with additional, more original versions with the 550 series side-folder a couple months later. Everybody should be able to get their desired flavor of 556 eventually. I'm getting the first version and adding that CTR stock from Magpul. I'll probably buy the side-folding version also (esp. if/ when it comes out in .308). |
They have so many orders, they know that they've got a hit on their hands. When XX% opt out from taking delivery of the initial version, they'll assume that most are just waiting to buy the folder. And that would be an accurate assumption in my view. The whole dems taking over issue will probably scare some folks off of the fence and into whatever version they feel they can get before some (non-existent) ban comes into effect. |
| I just spent two weeks at the Sig Acadamy and had a great time. I saw the 556 and by that point there had been more than 40,000 round fire through the rifle. Sig is going to give us a great rifle, one better than what most of use deserve. Can we stop just for a moment the whining and enjoy a new and great rifle?!?! Thank you all. |

| I've been pretty active in trying to stay on top of the 556 release and I have an update for everybody...I just talked to the editor of a major gun magazine who told me that his writer who is doing the article on the 556 was just told by Sig that they've decided to service (IE ship to) the general market before sending units to the media! That is huge news from where I stand. Sig must now sense the urgency to get it released to us rabid customers ASAP. Perhaps that initial 100 units that was to be shipped to media will start showing up at dealers. That said, as of today, Sig's customer service folks are saying that they'll be released by year's end. Paul Erhardt, in Sig's marketing dept., said today when asked about details of the configuration of the upcoming rifle and any available photos, that he didn't have anything that he could release at the moment. All of this seems kind of conflicting. If I were in Sig's marketing dept., I'd want to release at least some teaser pics to keep folks excited/ in the loop. They've had more than a few 556 customers grow tired of waiting and decide to buy XCRs, ARs, PTRs, ANYTHINGENDINGINR, etc. instead. |
