Found this on another website.
Load submitted by 'stigma'. This load was developed using Hornady bullets. In terms of power, the developer considers this a MAXIMUM load. The velocity measurement is by chronograph. Hornady cases and Winchester SR primers were used in development. 129gr Hornady SST Hodgdon BL-C(2) 29.6M 2250 FPS 1450 Ft-Lbs 14.5 BBl Lgth COMMENTS: start at 25.2gr and work up. data for IB, SST, and SP bullets. YMMV |

thanks for all the replies and input... i noticed that the data on AA site starts at 29gr / 2300 fps and ends at 31gr / 2467 fps... to where everybody else ends almost where alaxanders starts.. in the 29gr range..????
we have been shooting the Factory Hornady 123gr Amax rounds through our rifles here and have been getting good results... we have a few hundred empty Hornaday brass collected now and we deciced to go ahead and start with the reloading... i have reloaded for Match .308 useing RCBS Match dies and do precision loads for all of our precision .308s been doing that for about 7-8yrs now so i'm not exactly a beginner in handloading... but... a little weary about the AA data..??? HERE IS ANOTHER QUESTION..??? What would be the optimal velocity load one would shoot for in the 129gr SST in my .308's i shoot for 2600/2700fps in a 168gr and around 2400/2500 in a 175gr in my .223's i shoot for 2700/2750 in a 68gr and around 2600 in a 75gr and of coarse right at around 2900/2950 for my 55's - 62's So what would be a Good velocity goal for the 6.5 grendel in a 129gr..??? the Hornady factory 123's are posting 2580 fps so i was thinking of trying to get a load worked up at around 2400/2450 range is this too hot..??? i usually start low and work up every 2/10 ths of a grain and punch groups at 100yds and find that sweet spot that the barrel likes... but i also try to keep it in between the goal velocities... as stated above... this load will be used for hunting and hole punching at 100yds on paper to show off accuracy, but also want it to have enough kicker to get out to 1000yds for that once a while trip to the long range...!!! not asking for much am i..???

a little weary about the AA data.
As you should be. I stated in my first post, AA data is hot in my rifles. Proceed with caution. so i was thinking of trying to get a load worked up at around 2400/2450 range is this too hot.
Duno, what is your barrel length? AA data is from a 24 inch barrel and I believe Hornady is from a 14.5 inch. I have an 18 inch barrel and I could not get much over 2400fps with 120gr bullets without pressure issues. YMMV. Never tried anything heavier than 120gr. BTW, my Whitetail load is 100gr TTSX at about 2700fps. Deadly on MN Whitetails. |
