I have a newly-acquired 722 Remington in 222 that I'm cleaning/adjusting and ran across a conundrum. The trigger pull as I got it is 5-6 lbs and crrrrreeeepy. I cleaned the trigger with brake cleaner and adjusted the sear engagement and overtravel properly, but..... the trigger pull isn't "adjustable"..... its the same whether the screw is all the way in or even removed. There doesn't appear to be a spring behind the adjusting screw at all (its the small screw below the sear engagement adjusting screw... has a very small post on the end of it, like its supposed to have a spring over it).
I can understand the spring being absent due to previous "bubba-ing", but why the trigger still works, and has a heavy pull, without the return spring or adjusting screw, is beyond me. I've looked into the recess behind the screw and can't see a spring, but when I depress the trigger (bolt removed) it moves and resets like its under a return spring pressure. Any ideas short of replacing the trigger? |
| Thanks, but I think I solved the problem..... sold it w/full disclosure to a collector and bought a 788 in the same chambering in much nicer condition. I was just looking for a "shooter" in the first place. And the 788 also has a much nicer trigger (of all things)! |
