About 100 cases in resizing mixed 7mmremmag I had one separate at the belt.

First, how do I get the rest of the case out of my resizing die?

Second, why did this happen?

Third, what would you do with the rest of the same headstamp?

First, how do I get the rest of the case out of my resizing die? May have to send back to die maker.

Second, why did this happen? Resizing die is set incorrectly and you should have noticed the line in the case that warned of separation.

Third, what would you do with the rest of the same headstamp? Not the brass's fault. But all cases in this batch are suspect.

Belted cases need to headspace on the shoulder, not the belt. Unlike what the die instructions say.

That's why they separated, cases resized too much, stretched upon firing, over resized then failure.

Take a factory round fired in your chamber, ensure sizing die is at least 1/8 inch above the shellholder with handle all the way down on press.

Lube and size a case, wipe off lube and attempt to chamber. The bolt shouldn't close.

Rotate sizing die down 1/8 turn and repeat.

Keep repeating until bolt will close with a little 'feel".

Turn die down another 1/8 turn and lock it down. Case should chamber easy and sizing die is set to your chamber.

That's the old school way.

Now days we use a headspace gauge to set sizing die to push the shoulder back .002 to .003. 223 shown works the same for 7mm mag.

Hornady headspace gauge in the pic.

You put on your caliper and measure a fired case from your chamber. Set sizing die to push shoulder back from there.

My 5.56 chamber is 1.462, so I resize to 1.459.
