How do I disassemble the butt stock from the receiver on my 870?  I have the action apart (bolt is out).  I can see the Allen head screw waaayyy in the back.  It seems like the head is 7" or 8" away and is canted relative to the bore.

What size is it?

What tool do I use to reach it waaaayyyy down there?

Wrong direction. Wrong part.

The "Allen" bolt is actually a threaded stud into which the butt stock screw threads, from the BACK of the stock.

Use a thin, longer shanked Phillips screwdriver to remove the butt pad.  Look closely, and you'll see two small holes in the pad.  The screws are inside those holes.

With the butt pad off, look inside the hole in the butt stock.  You'll see a screw.
Use a long, heavy screwdriver to unscrew the screw, and the butt will come off.

DON'T remove the threaded stud from the rear of the receiver.

Faris has got it right - a #1 phillips, and a good sized flat blade work best for me...

Wham! Bam !    Thanks, guys.

If I unscrew it my butt will just fall off - got it.   Thanks again.
