Hi all,

I just bought a 2 shot mag extension for my 870. It is a used extension and the guy that sold it said the spring might not be the right one but will work. I tried it out and it went togeteher, but will not accept the +2, only 1 extra shell. i believe the spring is too long and is stacking inside the mag. The new spring is WAY longer than the stock spring it replaced, for the extension only being 6 inches long.

My question is: Does anyone know the proper length of the spring for a +2 application. I suppose I can just cut the spring and it should work. No rocket science here right? I just hate to do the old cut and try thing a dozen times, so if anyone has the right number, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Did you grind out the little tabs inside the original spring tube?

I agree with Prone. expresses have little indents that prevent the addition of a mag extention without dealing with them (drilling out what not) but be advised it will void warrenty, but if the gun has worked, it will work... its a 870. That being said.

7-shot----------32"
8-shot----------34"
9-shot----------37"
10-shot--------40"

These are estimates, but it should get you in the ball park. And yes it should be a good deal longer.

And here you go for the indents:

Thanks for the info guys. Yes I did knock out the silly indents on the mag, and the follower does move freely. I will take a look at the new spring and cut it accordingly.

You have been most helpful, thank you!

How much longer is it? And replacement springs are about $5.00 if you do not wish to cut it.

The new spring is 27" long and the factory spring is 15". A foot longer for 2 rounds? Something doesn't seem right. The numbers mentioned above seem a bit long.

Anyone have any idea why this thing will not accept the +2 rounds? I appreciate the input guys.

The spring lenghts listed above are the springs lengths provided by jon tank from tanks rifle shop. I will measure a few of mine when I get home since I need to clean my new firearm. But yes, the stock vs extension had a good difference on them. I was in the same boat when mounting my extension.. what the hell, this is suppose to fit here? It did, and I can still load 6 rounds.

Oh it just donned on me, how many shells are you trying to load in the mag tube, a plus 2 should hold 6. NOT 7. the stated capacity, includes 1 round in the chamber. So the tube will hold 6.
