I shot 2 WW2 K 98s one a mix master with various parts I found and put together
the other is a Polish 98/48 put together after the war, I think neither were bedded or tuned. both hated IMR 4064 with 44g and a Nolser 200 gr match bullet OAL 3.225 brass was new PRVI Winchester primers doing a ladder 45 gr was better and looks like the sweet spot. 46 and 47 gr enlarged the groups slightly and also increase recoil bests groups with the 45 gr load were at 1.5 inches at 80 yard for both rifles. My old eyes made the target fuzzy shots were fired off bags temperature was about 90 degrees, light cross wind I wanted to see which was a candidate for a replica sniper . The Polish had the best groups and stayed on target after it got hot. any one else have a pet load for the 8X57? Thanks |

I load 52.0 grains of IMR-4350 with Remington brass and Remington 9.5 primers with Sierra 175 grain Pro-Hunter bullets.
1.25" groups at 100 yards from my Remington 700 Classic. I use Sierra's published OAL. I think Varget, Re-15 and VihtaVuori N150 would work well too. |
