| Does ANY Country still use 8mm as an issue cal. ? Are they still churnning the ammo out new (Milsurp) ammo ? Thanks Rocklock |

This stuff just oozes out of the Middle-East, Central America, South America, and Europe. I can tell you this now: we may run out of 8mm... in 400 years... I've heard there are bunkers in Romania that have steel tins of the stuff stacked from the floor to the ceiling, litterally millions of rounds, same situation in various former Yugoslavia nations. |
| I wish I could afford an MG42/MG3. I heard a number before, I forget where and it could be bullshit, but I heard there was something like an estimated 8 billion rounds of 8mm ammo in the world still. Also I know someone makes new production 8mm(maybe Winchester or S&B and I think it's softpoint hunting ammo not fmj) but you hardly ever see that shit around. |
|
The S&B commercial stuff is just fine. It's made both in soft point and fmj. I've used the soft point for hunting and it worked just fine. Sometimes you can find it at gunshows, but I've also seen it at cheaperthandirt.com and some other online places. Do a google search. You'll find some. Supposedly it's non-corrosive too. I've never tested that "theory" though. I've gotten used to cleaning right after shooting surplus and old habits die hard. Also, you probably already know this, but don't bother with the US made commercial 8mm. It's all loaded way below the pressure it should be loaded to. It's more like 30/30 in power. |

There is so much available that owners of American machineguns will buy 8mm barrels so they can shoot cheap ammo. (30.06 on links is getting very scarce.) I have seen some pictures of Paki troops still fielding MG-42's. I think some Latin American countries were still using the German machine guns too. |
All right , you guys convinced me it'll be around for a while . SO I ordered a Mauser Yugo 47/24 "Collectors package" Brand spanking new w/ Bayo , cleaning gear , ammo pouches , and a sling , $189 from Samco . No shit this site has cost me more damn money Shit I never even heard of Samco till the other day . Im thinking a BRAND new 50 year old Mauser might be a good gun to bank on . The thing probably will keep working for a hundred years or so . Stash some ammo cheap Plus I enjoy shooting milatary bolt guns . WooHoo Woohoohoo. |
Find an old GEW 98 WW1 OR Samco has some beutiful Persian Mausers , Swedes , Swede snipers claw mount blah blah $1K (if I remember correctly) . This Yugo is going to be a using rifle , they are supposed to be unissued in New condition . I figured what the heck "old world" craftsmanship plus the worlds finest bolt gun . How wrong can I go ? |

My Vz24 is like that....I think it has everything but teeth stuck in the stock. No blueing left, 70 years of crap ground into it, generally looks like it went through 3 or 4 wars. Thats what I love about it, it just makes you wonder what the heck has this poor rifle seen. I used to have an un-issued M48 Yugo.......sold it without ever shooting it, just didn't have any character. |
The kick from a metal buttpad and the 8mm combo doesn't help all that much easier, sometimes its just easier to shoot the AR or the cetme |
Had a Mauser years ago it was the first High powered rifle I owned @15 . After about the second shot , I asked my dad (who was a water cooled Machine gunner in WWII) Were they all that loud in a war ? I'm not sure what I thought he would say . He said something like "Ive never heard one rifle shooting B4 sounds kinda quite" (Ah grasshopper , what is the sound of one gun shooting?) . These where my pre ear muff days ![]() |
The only thing that has ever turned my shoulder purple is my 8mm 98k |
