I recently acquired a partial box(18 rounds, 20 round box) of this ammunition for quite cheap. A friend of mine had a large collection of old ammunition that he was selling very cheap(I got four hundred rounds of .308 for $50) and these looked interesting, so I bought them too. From a little internet research, it seems this is a elephant cartridge utilized by primitive rifle designs(falling block, etc). I've only found one place that sells it new(at $60 per 20!!!). This stuff is obviously VERY old, judging from the price written on the box($5.50) and the corrosion on some of the bullets. The box reads "Norma Ammunition", and on the side flap there is a holographic sticker that reads "Olympic Championship Match Grade Ammunition". Ten rounds appear to be in fine condition, other than the aged look of the brass. The case has a slight bottleneck with a gently sloping shoulder. The bullet is a soft point round nose. Six bullets have brass corrosion on them, and I used a metal polish called Nevr-Dull to clean up one of the nasty rounds, to show that it's simply surface corrosion and doesn't appear to affect the shootability of the ammo. After a light polish with the wadding there are dark spots where the corrosion was. Two rounds, however, are split open at the shoulder, with some nasty brown rust-ish stuff coming out from the inside.

My question is, does anyone have any additional information about this oddball cartridge? Are these bullets worth anything?

My apologies if these pictures don't work, all the different types of links (a href, img src) from photobucket just appear as coding on the preview, so I put the links instead.

not really worth anything to hunters/ shooters.....Hornady started making it a couple years ago to go hand in hand with the ruger No.1 in that caliber.  it has quite a following still.  your Norma stuff might have a bit of value for cartridge collectors.
