9mm PCC Glock mags (Page 1 of 2)

What’s a reliable option that takes Glock 17 mags? I heave beau coup mags & no interest in adding another brand of mags. It will likely be SBR’d down the road for one of my 9mm cans with an Aimpoint/red dot. I’ve been eyeing the PSA options, but they don’t have a last round bolt (not a deal breaker since it’s going to be mostly range toy/plinker) but I’m not savvy on other options. As a range toy, I’d prefer under $1k, but it’s negotiable. |

There are so many PCC specific parts out now, makes building one very easy. The only issue you may run into would be buffer weight causing problems (to light or to heavy) and that is easily figured out. |

Is there a different 9mm buffer spring? These were guns were blowback & that makes sense vs a gas or roller-delayed, IMO. Can you direct me to a reliable source (book or whatever) and I can stop pestering you? Please. And the hammer? I swear there was some ground-down/welded lateral for weight that looked more Freddy Kruger than Freddy he said was “ugly but worked” mass, etc, etc, etc. and reminded me of a AK discarded & unwanted hammer than an AR hammer. When did this PCC become more modular? I must have missed “it” as I look online now. |

I was looking hard at PSA’s designated Glock lower. Or, B&T? I just found an ammo can with a shit-ton of Glock 33 round mags, NIW, so that’s the only definite. But, I see there are magwell inserts that allow Glock or Colt mags in 9mm & I’m learning about the assorted parts & requirements. My Colt had one & it seemed a PIA, but I don’t remember why. A 9mm AR pistol might be easier? I dunno. My paper Form 1 SBR took a few months back when I made my last SBR, while my last paper Form 4 took 13 months….I see eForms are the way now, which means another hurdle since I hate computer forms. So, I’m in the WTF (What’s The Facts?) I have a Dillon progressive & can crank out 9mm easier than 5.56. So 9mm & Glock mags are what I’ve reached as “definites.” |
| Just swing a dead cat, OP, by the time you finish researching all the available Glock mag PCCs, one will be out of production and two more will have taken its place. |

I only have one AR style 9mm PCC that takes Glock mags. Built it from a kit on a dedicated 9mm lower. (FM, one of the few lowers with last round bolt hold open) It went together just like any other AR. No performance problems other than getting very dirty. It's more reliable than my Colt 9mm that takes straight Colt stick mags. (I really should sell that thing) |

I suspect this will either be a “why didn’t I do this sooner?” or another “da fuq was I thinnin’ Babalooey?” Not at all, just that there's 87 different 9mm PCC options that take Glock mags. There are multiple mag blocks, including ones you can print yourself, you can go straight blowback, radial delayed blowback, you could probably finagle a gas-operated gun from SIG parts or Macon could build you one, or there are 87 different non-AR options that take Glock mags - folding stocks, collapsible stocks, wood stocks, folding barrels, 3-D print from scratch, there may even be a lever action, you might could build a bolt action. How quiet do you want to make it? |

When did this PCC become more modular? I must have missed "it" as I look online now. See my picture below. I've been running them in full auto since they came out in 2017. ![]() I do have a love/hate relationship as they have had QC issues with their barrels as I have documented on my site here: https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=1882 While most 9mm AR's are straight blowback, note that the mag height is typically raised for straight blowback. Note how the CMMG RDB uses a similar bolt and carrier relationship to a 556 BCG. With this relationship the mag height is brought back down to where it is for 556. That said, it is the same for 9mm so if you want to go Glock mags, I would recommend you get a stripped Glock lower from CMMG which has the proper mag height. Yes, I know you can get a straight blowback Glock lower from other sources but they are not designed for this use case. You would have to remove the fixed ejector from the lower and most likely the LRBHO won't work with those other lowers. Mag height may also have to lowered. You don't have to do any of that tinkering with the CMMG Glock lower. Or as I mentioned in the picture above, just get some CMMG 9mm mags or the MEAN Endomags or Exomags and use your standard AR lower. I also say stripped as I highly recommend you look into my 'ARS' lower setup for a smooth impulse as I have documented on my site here: https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=2757 This is will make it 'MP5 smooth'. Lots of people on here have been using the 'ARS' setup I started back around 2017. As mentioned at the link above, I use the same full auto lower for 556 and 9mm (and other calibers). Let me know if you need any help. |

You didn't mention blowback vs delay system, so.... I'll put one out there for an Extar PCC pistol. Already short barrel and ready to SBR, takes Glock mags, add the heavy rifle buffer/charging handle thingy for extra weight and it really is about the softest blowback shooter you can get. You can get 2 for the $1000 mark, also has an optional SBA3 vs standard 'blade' stabilizer. Not nearly as Gucci as anything else here but still a good, solid, lightweight fun shooter. With the right ammo I'm getting about 2 moa at 50 yds. |

If you’re willing to be in the area of $1k then a Stribog A3G is a great alternative to blowback. While not exactly the same as an MP5 operating system it’s similar enough to make it a much smoother cycling gun as opposed to a 9mm AR style gun so no jarring recoil. Since it comes with the ability to take Glock mags then it’s good to go right out of the box. A Kuna would also be a similar option but to get Glock compatible you’d have to buy a new lower. |

| I'll second the Extar EP9. Very light weight, lrbho, and great price. Mine has been 100%, pretty much all suppressed. And its softer shooting then any other straight blowback AR9 I have shot. I have messed with a complete Fox Trot mike AR9 set up, wasn't super reliable and the lrbho worked maybe 75% of the time, ended up selling it. Tried a PSA 9mm upper with endomag inserts, had same experience and ended up selling it too. The extra is way better, and I highly doubt I will ever get rid of it. |

Maybe I’m missing it on the Extar site, but can you change barrels yourself? I can’t find any specs re: barrel steel or bolt material, or aluminum alloys, but as a Boomer, using these infernal digital gadgets called computers is a PIA so I might be missing it. I guess I can email them but wondered if someone could direct me? The EP9 looks more Keltec-esque than Wilson or even PSA. Which is OK, I have several Keltecs (including SU16C) that run like sewing machines without a hitch, so the comment isn’t a “dig.” It looks “fun!” |

It would help if you were more specific in what you are looking for. There are probably over a dozen options for PCCs that take glock mags. -ok w simple blowback? -running an frt? -care about folding stock? -length/weight requirements? -short bbl for natural subs? If you dont care about folding stock and want a cheap simple blowback the extar gets great reviews. For something high quality I have been waiting on these to drop. Supposedly AR FCG so should be easy to setup with an frt: https://zenithfirearms.com/product/zf9-g-5-8-inch-barrel/ In between those two options the Stribog SP9A3G is solid and has a good aftermarket. |
|
Sounds like the extar would be a great choice for you. The various Turkish options are about the same price so dont make any sense if you don't care about a folding stock. Although, delayed blowback would be much nicer running suppressed unless you have a very low bp can. |

But I am pretty sure the barrel is not a standard AR9 barrel, and is proprietary to Extar. I would email them as to the other specs. |
| I know I will be accused of being one of the poors but the Bear Creek bufferless side-charging AR9 upper I just bought and paired with a PSA AR9 lower, folding brace and YHM R9 suppressor is such a hoot to shoot it makes ammo disappear like David Copperfield. The only thing I don't like about it is the stupid 32 TPI thread pitch on the BCA barrel. |
It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

I’ve heard this sorcery before with the allegation that the heavier 9mm bolt & buffer beat the hammer and also the lower which is designed for a DI gas system. Have you heard this or any experience with hammers “failing” or destroying lowers? The site links to assorted FCG drop ins, none of which are particularly inexpensive, but they are all beefier, like the bastardized/welded one I referenced. Wilson, Timney, CMC & Rise are what I found. And the 9mm buffer—some people say 5.6oz minimum to 10.5oz? But NOT AR15 buffers or buffer springs. Most build sites say around 8oz, but most of what I see aren’t internal weighted like the AR, so if I were to get a FRT…these solid buffers aren’t recommended. It’s beginning to sound easier to just buy an assembled gun, maybe a pistol, like one of those recommended in this thread vs building. I’m not asking your opinion on this, just your experience with the FCG/hammer vs cassette in 9mm blowback. But I have so many AR lowers…a Stern insert is appealing until the trigger cassette, guess-a-buffer x2-3, etc. |

Dis was da wabbit hole I was trying to avoid….huh-huh-uhhhhh….[Elmer Fudd] But, too late! Seems the hammer thing also has to do with ramped vs unramped bolt, but parts needed are ordered. Rock River upper & buffer, Stern bolt & Stern Glock mag adapter & I will report back. Still waffling on 10” vs 7” but will likely settle for shorter & just do a pistol vs SBR. I started the eForm & went into Boomer-mode & said….screw it. Pistol is easier. It might be awhile, but I will report back. Thanks again! |

I’ve seen the bolt ramp seems to be an issue & most site agree the ramped bolt & stock AR15 trigger will work, but the FA hook on the M16 apparently will cause catastrophic failure that locks the bolt. Since I already have a couple AR SBRs, I may try one of them, or a pistol lower with a boring Colt or Bushie hammer. Or…at least I have time while parts arrive. My Geissele SSAs are in my target rifles & carbines, so they are spoken for. But I have a couple AR pistols and a preban stock Bushie as test lowers. Thanks again! |

A 9mm AR is great. I've assembled a few glock mag ones, and colt mag too. To assemble your own, I'd use these items: glock lower: PSA sells a complete lower for under $150 barrel and BCG: Faxon any AR upper and buffer tube buffer: KAK industry or whatever heavy buffer you can find. get ones that have moving weights within them, not solid. If it's not a 9mm buffer you might need a spacer in the buffer tube. handguard and stock: whatever you prefer There are posts that go into more details about the build, but all the parts above are reliable, good parts, and you will assemble a fun rifle. When I would search websites for deals, I've also picked up some of the store-brand versions of these parts on Joe Bob Outfitters, and they have also all been fine. Of all the items, I recommend the faxon barrel most, because it is very lightweight and makes for a handier gun. There's lots of other good brands and parts, these ones have worked for me and been reasonable in price. They are super fun and inexpensive to shoot, a must have! |

Heaviest buffer? When did this become “The Plan?” I ask because I have a vintage Colt 2 piece steel buffer I planned on using (I guess I had extra when I sold mine?) for a build, but now I’m wondering: Was that THE problem with my Colt? 5.6oz was all that was around & it choked every 2-3 rounds. Two trips to Colt & they said “meets spec” yet I’m fairly sure it spent 10+ months on the two returns & was as bad as my SP1 that had the same/similar drama. This was pre-H buffers, so…crap! I likely will be shooting suppressed, so is the 10oz buffer better? I have a case or more of IMI 158gr subsonics that were my preferred ammo. |

Two trips to Colt & they said "meets spec" yet I'm fairly sure it spent 10+ months on the two returns & was as bad as my SP1 that had the same/similar drama. This was pre-H buffers, so crap! I likely will be shooting suppressed, so is the 10oz buffer better? I have a case or more of IMI 158gr subsonics that were my preferred ammo. ![]() All that said, a delayed blowback action always suppresses better than straight blowback. Again, I've been burned by CMMG as well but it is the only 9mm SMG on the planet that has low reciprocating mass AND a slow full auto cyclic rate. https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=361 |

https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-recoil-parts/car-15m4-9mm-carbine-buffer/ This is what I have. Maybe it isn’t Colt. I got it at a fun show (when they were “fun”) from a guy who told me it was Colt’s “fix” to the 9mm carbine problems. Except it wasn’t. ![]() ETA: great link! Thank you. At the moment, I’ve committed purchases to the blowback. I remain confused about the metric-shit-ton 9mm buffers &thought the 5.6oz one I posted, which seems NOT Colt…but I digress…but the current bolt & buffer thinking of 22-24oz of reciprocating mass is going to be….noticeable. I will investigate your link & maybe “9mm: Part Deux” will involve the delay roller-thingie. I like really quiet/no recoil which was why my 10/22 SBR has been my favorite lately. I also have a PS-90 SBR that takes my Gemtech G5 BUT, both .22s lack the visceral “oomphf!” for steel plate ringing, so I thought a subsonic 9mm either pistol or SBR would tickle that itch…but found all…..”this!” |

I found him & his site through an archived AR15 thread. I should have explained that’s where I read about 10oz buffers vs my wimpy 5.6oz wannabe. ![]() |

Very happy, minimal recoil, screaming deal. |

G 19 or 17 in a Recover 20/20N chassis is fantastic shooting. There is a high dot sight mount that attaches to the right side, UR20, and space the dot sight up some. Laser light on under pic rail and done! Suppressor completes the package. In my testing against a heavy Ruger PC9 carbine, Glock in a Recover 20/20 won by a small amount, in fast present and shoot comparison. Both using dot sights and both suppressed. ARP 9 is very good too, but is much heavier, much larger and takes much more force to use. Glock in a 20/20N is faster and easier to get into action, easier to carry and less noticible too. Using a dot sight, Glock in a Recover sends hot gas to the sighting eye, ARP 9 does not, so for range use ARP 9 is better. Using a laser for sighting and a lower hold, gas to the eye isn't much of a factor. |
