Gents,

I just finished building up an AR15 9mm Carbine.  I used a 5 inch barrel from ADCO, and mounted a Silencerco Octane 9mm.  The current buffer is a Colt 9mm with the buffer spacer at the end of the tube.  I was considering going to a heavier buffer like the Spikes ST-9X, or the JP captured spring system.  Leaning towards the Spikes for the price.

Thanks.

When I asked about 9mm ARs a few weeks ago, the results were pretty negative. Those having enjoyment out of the platform were using silent capture springs.
YMMV

I had used the octane and a 5" barrel for awhile with the cmmg bcg and slash 9QT buffer and standard spring. If I was to do it again I would just get the $50 or so shipped spikes 9 buffer and try a Wolff xtra power spring.

I use a Wolf extra power spring and a 9QT buffer, my only complaint with a 9mm setup is weight, but its more of an annoyance and the fun factor totally overpowers it

Thanks for the replies.  The price of the slash buffer + Xp spring is within spitting distance of the JP captured spring system.  Not sure what I'm going to do.  If I was starting from scratch today, I would likely go with a CZ scorpion instead, but I do like this.  Here it is with my Octane 45 mounted.  The Octane 9 will be an inch shorter.

I think the 9mm AR platform is light years better than the CZ scorpion. Comparing a 9mm m16 vs an auto cz scorpion the m16 has less recoil and is more controllable. The CZ scorpion is one step away from being an airsoft gun IMO.

Having said that, I do have both but I pick up the 9mm AR more often.

I don't have the CZ myself.  I understand your comparison to an Airsoft.  They are awfully "plasticy" and not in a good way.

I'm using the JP 9mm SCS in mine. I think it shoots good in that config. If I change it, I'd go with the Wolf extra power spring and the 9Q-T Heavy buffer.

I would definitely go with a JP silent capture spring. It truly makes a huge difference.

i have a VERY similar set up as you. I build on a "budget" i went with the PSA 9mm buffer for $15 i think.

Runs flawlessly. I'm just saying

I run a 9mm buffer in my 5".  Runs and sounds great.

I think I would do the Silent Capture spring from JP but I think they want you to use their BCG too.
