| What is a reliable 9mm upper to run in FA? Also is there anything that I should be aware of with doing this? All NFA rules have been followed. I already have the Spikes Tactical 9mm enhanced magwell adapter for the lower. I also have a few of the Spikes 9mm 32 round mags. Now all I need is a good upper. Spikes is no longer making theirs. |
| I built my 9mm upper with a TROS 5" barrel, RRA 9mm upper receiver, 9mm bolt ramped, YHM rail, standard charging handle, and a Aimpoint red dot optic. KNS pins are a good idea since 9mm is tough on those hammer/trigger pins. And of course a 9mm buffer and 9mm mag block and 9mm mags are needed. |

From what I have read, make sure you have a RAMPED bolt, or you'll damage your lower. Also make sure you are using KNS pins too. Who makes the ramped bolts? CMMG does and you can get them through Brownells, the Q&A has a question about Full Auto and the answer is yes it will trip the sear. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27417/Product/AR-15-M16-ENHANCED-9mm-BOLT-CARRIER |

I run my Oly system 9mm upper on an RR lower with no issues. A magblock of my own construction lets me feed it with unmodified sten mags, and it's had thousands and thousands of rounds through it. http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd484/richard_stone/PICT0105.jpg?t=1320864940 What in the hell is going on in that picture?

Looks more like it's had millions and millions of rounds through it. |

How many have you gone through? |

looks like it was buried in dust/sand at one time ![]() Things are oft dusty and windy outside in the front range of Colorado. I haven't cleaned that particular rifle since 2004, and it still runs fine. Pull out the bolt/carrier and wipe it down with a rag and/or spray in some lube if it starts to get sluggish. I do much the same with the other post samples I use for rentals, a lube and a wipedown is all they've really needed, including 5.56 DI guns. Not recommending it (not cleaning) to the folks at home, but M16s are a lot tougher than the haters give them credit for. Mine run and run and run and run, except on Wolf/Tula ammo... |

Still running on the replacements for each, and still have the extra spare for each, as I ordered two when each part broke - one to fix it, and one to keep in reserve. |

I can vouch for what Richard says...I have shot next to him for several years now. We don't baby our tools. you might want to contact Ron Williams RMW Xtreme firearms
Ron Williams [email protected] he has developed a 9mm gas operated upper and it looks to be pretty nice i just bought his 7.62x25 tokarav 7" barreled upper and will be shooting it this weekend edit:spelling |

You are right, this could be the answer for addressing the concerns of pounding a valuable RR. I shoot quite a bit of 9mm using all the usual tricks (ramped bolt ect.) but still break hammer pins every once in a while. The bad thing , even with kns, is you don't always know it right away as the weapon will function, then the dreaded egging could occur. I think this could be a great addition to an already super platform. Same for the Tok except the ammo is not as cheap or plentiful as it was.
