I have been looking for a 9mm upper since the first part of this year. They were sold out everywhere I looked, some on gunbroker, but prices were way high! I became aware of Adco from another thread in this section. I am looking for pistol length, and they have several in stock and prices seem reasonable. I have one on backorder with JSE, but DPMS will not give them A ETA for the barrels,, so no telling how much longer it will be. The JSE upper is $400 with cmmg ramped BCG. The Adco is about $550 with ramped BCG.
My questions are, does anyone know of anywhere else to get one of these at a reasonable price, and thoughts about quality of Adco upper? |

The Rock River on Gun broker does look like a good price, but I don't think they come with a ramped bolt carrier. I would rather use my standard ar-15 lower with standard hammer. I was looking at pistol length, but now kind of leaning toward a carbine. This Yankee Hill at Midway looks nice but is more than I would like to spend. It comes with a Hahn mag adapter which sell for $200, 9mm buffer, 32 rd magazine, and flip up sights. Total price is $989. Seems high, but the required accessories add up fast.

So, for $989 I can shoot 9mm out of my ar? Nothing else to buy or change? Almost seems too good to be true. Or, for about $700 you can buy a Just Right Carbine that is a complete rifle and uses Glock magazines. I have had two 9mm AR's and a JRC and after spending time with both kept the JRC and sold off the 9mm AR's. The latest JRC has proven to be 100% reliable and accurate. It uses AR furniture and FCG and you can easily switch it from 9mm to .40 and .45 caliber. |

It's not as simple at changing the upper to 9mm. You will need to change the hammer, BCG if it didn't come with the upper and you will need to purchase the mag insert and buy mags.
I had a Colt 9mm AR at one point and loved it. Fun to shoot especially when 9mm ammo was cheap. Sold it for some stupid reason or another. |

Yea, that is the hang up for me. If it were just the cost of an upper it would be fine. But by the time you get the mags and the mag well adapter you have sunk some serious money into a conversion. The dedicated lowers work great but they cost more than a 5.56 lower and they can only be 9mm. Then there is the cost and availability of magazines. It adds up fast. Guess that is why I went the JRC route. |

I went ahead and ordered the Yankee Hill conversion. Had trouble deciding between YH conv and the JRC. With the JRC, seemed like everywhere I looked there were 2 bad reviews to every good one. After ordering, it seems like all I hear is how good the JRC is and everybody loves them.
I am planning on shooting this gun a lot. I cast my bullets and reload on a progressive press, so my cost per round is only about 4 cents. While the initial investment is high, the ammo savings will be sustantial. Later on, I might go ahead and add a JRC to the collection |

You will like your 9mm AR. I enjoyed the two I had but sold them during the "panic". I had several other 9mm PCC's in the safe. Now that things are calming down I thought I would try the JRC. I had waited on getting one as when they first came out they had some hic-ups that needed some tuning. They had just formed the company in 2009. Those were probably the reviews you hear, on the early guns. The current production guns are the collimation of all that has been learned. I wouldn't buy one a year ago, but they have come a long way since then.
I too reload and its one of the reasons I went with a PCC a long time ago. With my little progressive press I can just crank out good ammo by the hundreds of rounds while my dog just relaxes and watches me. 9mm is clearly a very affordable way to shoot in volume. |
