I am thinking about replacing my Standard A2 Stock on my Colt M16 with a collapsible one. Anyone ever do this and have trouble removing the buffer tube? I heard Colt used a heavy hand when applying lock-tite to the threads.

Thanks!

Do not use the flats on the end to remove it. The receiver extension is installed with a collet and ultimately should be removed with one if it is on that tight. I would use Kroil or other penetrating type oil on the threads. What are you using to hold the receiver while you are trying to remove the receiver extension?

I have a receiver block that mounts into the mag well and a vice. I will use penatrating oil. I have an M38A1 engine I rebuilt and I used a lot of penatrating oil on the bolts and threads. I used PB Blaster and it worked out real well.

I have several AR wrenches. What does collet tool look like and who sells them?

Thanks,

Dane

The collet looks very similar to this one. They are pricey and hard to find in the right size. The collet grips the end of the receiver extension and a crows foot and torque wrench are used on the wrench flats on the collet to properly tighten the receiver extension.
