a .45acp suppressor that is hearing safe? they say its the quietist .45 suppressor in existence. there are videos of it on youtube. unfortunately when i looked it up on google everything says that AAC wont produce them... at least not yet. its supposed to be from a contract from the Dept. of Defense because they want a good suppressor for the .45acp cartridge. i guess they may be planning to get rid of the 9mm, and bring back the .45acp. anyone have any info on this BLACK BOX suppressor? and what are your guys opinons on the way t looks because i really really like the way it looks. i hope they make it, and its compatable with the 1911 platform. anyways, lets open this up for discussion. |
I hope not. we need to bring the .45 back. it was created for our soldiers for wartime, but very few get to use it now. |
Honestly if you put good magazine in an M9, it's an alright gun. I totally agree that match grade 1911's are sweet, but the ones we had in inventory were probably rattletraps with crap accuracy, and shitty triggers (there are some bad ones I've shot that require like 6-14 pound, seemingly variable, trigger weight.) So it's not as big of an issue as everyone makes it out to be. The M9 is probably superior to most .45's we had in service, and it gives the guy twice as many rounds to hit with, which most soldiers need considering the way the Army doesn't like to train them to shoot handguns. I'd like to see it come back, but obviously, from cost alone, it's got to be worth at least twice what the Army get's an M9 for, and money talks. Besides the obvious fact the M9 takes a suppressor like it was meant for it. |
|
AAC claims the Black Box will be produced, but they won't say when. The death of the proposed .45 military contract seems to have stopped the works. AAC appears to be focusing more on 9mm pistol suppressors (because that is what the military is currently using) and high-tech rifle suppressors for .50 and .308 precision rifles. Many guys who bought .45 pistols as "Black Box" hosts sold those guns long ago because they got tired of waiting for AAC to put the BB into production. ![]() |
too bad AAC wont hold a press conference to talk about the BLACK BOX project. i wonder what would happen if they asked for funding/support from the civilian market. I wonder how many people would fund it... i wonder what all pistols are capable of being hosts for this suppressor. I wonder if rocking barrels are ok(glocks), or if it must be a stationary barrel (sig) |
|
AAC's research and development for the Black Box was driven by military interest. When the military put their plans of wider spread adoption of .45 caliber handguns on hold, AAC shelved the project. The prototype cans are AMAZINGLY quiet. Kevin Brittingham (AAC owner) has vowed to make the Black Box at some point. However, the current focus needs to be on production of all their other products, including cans for the SCAR project. At this point there is no telling when the Black Box will be produced or at what price point. Mark |
Well, FN dumped AAC so that should free up some spare time to produce the BlackBox. |
Link? I believe you, I just think it's funny and I want to see the meltdown for myself. |
No links yet. |
Where did you hear that? |
Well, that hijack sure didn't take long. So typical of the suppressor forum. ![]() The SCAR contract is not between FN and AAC, so I'm not sure how FN can "dump" AAC. I do know for a fact that cans are still being delivered. Instead of continuing this hijack why don't you start another thread to discuss the SCAR progam? I'm sure the original poster would probably appreciate having his thread stay on track. Maybe even a Moderator would enjoy that. Take care, Mark |
The SCAR contract belongs to FN for the entire package. |
|
I think that comment was relevant. If AAC is devoting time to the SCAR program that it would normally devote to the Black Box and the SCAR program is no concern of theirs anymore then we should be able to see the Black Box soon, no? Is it much quieter than previous .45s? I would love to have one myself but AFAIK 45s suck to suppress. |
Uh, ok? Your point? I stated that they now have time to devote to their other projects including the black box. You repeat this to me like it's something I don't know? Tell me what I'm missing. I don't get it. |
My point is that AAC is devoting time to producing all their other high-demand products for all their customers. They have a product line that is high in demand and are working like crazy just to produce their current product line. The Black Box is simply not a high priority right now. SCAR or no SCAR, AAC is just busy. When they have the time and they feel the Black Box will financially make sense for them to build, I'm sure we'll see the cans produced. Take care, Mark |
That can wait until ian tells us where he got his information from. I'm won't be online this weekend, so don't take my absence for anything other than that, if he post his answer this weekend. |
Uh, no. I have reason to believe Ian has reputable contacts in many areas related to this discussion. You only have AR15.com and the internet. It takes awhile for things to get out on the internet- especially sensitive things like this. |
I find it interesting that every time there is an AAC thread you seem to have some new negative news about AAC. News so new that often AAC says this is the first time they have heard about it, and it also seems many times the last. I personally would like to hear some source for this. |
The source is not for public consumption. However, lets just say this is not an industry secret and that the rumors have existed since early last year. Until now no one wanted to confirm that FN had in fact been green lighted to look to companies other than AAC for SCAR suppressors. There is a couple of things to consider with the SCAR contract and how it relates to AAC or any company who would replace them. The SCAR contract belongs directly to FN and it is their discretion who's suppressor they use. Rather than immediately calling BS, why not just sit back and see how it plays out? Time will obviously tell who is right and who is wrong. |
This thread is useless. There is zero technical discussion here. The Blackbox is vaporware and doesn’t exist. Probably Gemtech's fault. Who knows. However, since we are off topic... Mark...AAC is not producing "high demand products", they are rebuilding Gemtech cans in an effort to defame that company. They need to replace the Prodigy cores as promised over six months ago. Spending time and resources on other companies silencers constitutes “Company Disservice” to AAC customers awaiting restitution to one of the loudest, most expensive silencers ever sold (on short barrels). |
Bummer you missed the thread, but it happened. Not here. |
It didn't start out that way. It was driven that way by the usual people.
Wrong again, buddy. The prototypes did and do exist. They were fired. They were tested with a meter. They will eventually be built. Why are you now jumping on the erroneous information bandwagon? Why are you stating something as fast when you have ZERO knowledge of it? When was the last time you were in AAC's facility?
Once again, you are commenting on things about which you either have no knowledge or you are just taking an unprofessional jab at AAC. So much for unbiased, objective third-party, huh John?. Your anti-AAC attitude is obvious. Yes, AAC products are in high demand. I sell the things and have a clue about the product demand. So again, why are you stating things about which you have no clue? The Prodigy core rebuild is something on their list of things to do. It is being worked on. Mark |
|
The Blackbox reached the prototype stage and was canceled. The military has no interest in these and AAC said the project was on hold. That is a good indication that there is no Blackbox. You can’t get one. Period. No clue? Is AAC rebuilding Gemtech cans? YES. Is AAC replacing the Prodigy cores as promised? NO. Guess I am right after all. As for anti AAC...I would be upset at ANY company that expends resources to rebuild cans that were not purchased from them. I feel like that is saying..."Our customers can be put off, while we rebuild some other companies cans instead of fixing our own problems." Sorry Mark, I have a clue, so stop trying to make me out to be some enemy of AAC because I call them on their mistakes. |
Read the reviews on my website of it. Its so loud on short barrels that AAC claims they will be replacing the cores in them to get them quieter. |
You are like a reporter that is reporting with that undercover source. If the source isn't meant for public consumption you should remain quiet. Because without a reliable name to back it up, it's just that a rumor. If Gemtech, or someone who's public image is on the line said it, I might believe it, but you are just another semi-anonymous name on a message board. |
Generally they pick the host weapon first, then they select the can. Since the competition for the pistol was canceled there is really no reason for the military to buy a 45 can don't you think? You know if you really want one, you can lobby your congress critter to buy the Blackbox, never mind the canceled pistol competition. Magpul prototypes out a lot of weapons that they either don't planning on producing, or are a long way out, I don't see you jumping on them as vaporware. Knight's did the same with their PDW, no military interest, and the program was shelved. As far as the rebuilding of cans, so far they have only did one, and are working on another, it seems more like a pet project, rather then a business. But if it did turn into a business, if there weren't so many dissatisfied customers there probably wouldn't be a market. |
So, working prototype to you is "vaporware"? ![]() Yes, you have no clue what is on AAC's production schedule. You assume resources used to rebuild cans are resources being pulled off other AAC projects. You assume incorrectly. Mark |
If it never reaches production, that is pretty much vaporware, yeah. Granted, if it does actually come out, then it's no longer vaporware. I'm just not sure why the thing keeps coming up, is it being prominently advertised/hyped somewhere I don't know of? |
Considering we've got at least two verified Shrike owners on this site, I don't think that fits either. By that logic, a transferable M16A2 is vaporware. |
A friend of mine owns a Shrike. I helped him break it in. Caught the woods on fire with tracers too. ![]() But it's cool. My other buddy who helped start the fire is the sheriff of that county. |
