so there were 6 armed robberies in the county i live in the last 9 days, and i just sold my .45. i have a .357 on the way, but i want a shotgun to up the firepower a bit and my question is mossberg 500 or remington 870? either would have an extended mag tube and would be loaded with 00 buckshot to do the trick.

Either is a good choice.  Choose the one you like the best.

Personally, I prefer the 870.

Went looking for a shotgun to use for a 3 gun match.  Found this at Academy for $180 before tax.

It is almost as cheap as a mossberg, but built like a Remington (I believe H&R is owned by Remmy).

What he said, but I much prefer the Mossberg.

Either is dead nuts reliable and tough as nails, the controls (safety and slide lock release) are in very different places.  I like the Mossberg control locations much better, mostly because I detest the cross trigger guard type safety on the 870.

870 and you wont regret it.

Are you a lefty? If so then the mossberg will be easier to use the safety. Otherwise i prefer the 870.

You can get the 870 Home security shotgun which has a factory mag extension for about $329.00 NIB.
