I am planning on ordering one of the Mossberg 590 factory AOW. I work at a dealer, so I will not have to deal with the transfer fees. I understand the process as I already have multiple NFA items. My question is, once I own it, can I further reduce the barrel length? I wanted to do around an 10" barrel, but was not sure if it had to stay the 14" factory length.

Thanks for any help. This area is new to me, and I have been unable to find an answer on this topic.

AOWs have no barrel length definition or requirement. You can cut to any length at any time.

Thank you. I was unaware that the AOW did not have a length requirement. That answers that question.

Yup, but one important note.  Never, ever add a rifled barrel to a smooth bore "shotgun" style AOW.  Unless it's a .410, now you've gone from a smooth bore handgun (AOW) to a rifled bore handgun with a bore over 0.5" (Destructive Device - and an untaxed/unregistered one at that!).

FWIW,
