And while most of the time fake cans receive a lot of deserved derision for those who are "only going for the look," they do have some practical uses, e.g., when firing frangible ammunition during short range training/shoot-houses and/or using Simunitions (the hole in the Training Adapter is big enough to accept both 5.56MM Simunitions and 9MM Simunitions) where you want/need to simulate the weight and length of a suppressor but don't want to risk damaging your actual suppressor. This can be important for military and LE... but for a personally owned suppressor that can cost near $1,000 and a six month wait, IMHO, it's definitely worth a little extra IF you make a habit of firing frangible ammunition and/or Simunitions, but want to have the "feel" of the suppressor in cramped quarters. Of course, I gave into "the look" a little bit, too. On the one hand my Surefire suppressor is still pending on a Form 4, and probably won't clear until close to the end of the year (check cashed in late-April). On the other hand, I know that the training adapter is not likely to get the same kind of use/abuse/heat from firing frangibles and Simunitions, which is fine, but the SF-TRAINER-556 from the factory comes in an anodized black finish with nice white color fill on the markings. Also, since this rifle also doubles as a demo gun, I wanted the training suppressor to more or less "match" the rest of the rifle, instead of sticking out as an add-on part. Paint was free-handed Rustoleum Camouflage (Khaki, Earth Brown, and Deep Forest Green, IIRC). Simulated "wear" was based on actual suppressors I already own that have gotten pretty beat up over the years. http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff502/augeekim/1004495E-1BF5-4762-8072-FD690EAA7733_zpsy0pk9bcr.jpg http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff502/augeekim/8327DF03-6CA3-4857-9150-CB8200D137DE_zpscb2lhvme.jpg http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff502/augeekim/2D32172E-49A7-4FD1-8DC5-91B244DBEEAA_zpsj3k7ndma.jpg ~Augee View Quote Crikey. |
