I am thinking about getting an AR10 and have some questions.
-Is there much difference between Armalite and DPMS?
-Is there any other makers that you might suggest that are not over $1300?
-Where is a good place to buy from online?
-Are all AR10 mags compatable?
-Anything else I should know about?
-It seems that DPMS does not feel the need to put a shell deflector, assist, and chamber cover door on their rifles-should I be concerned about this when purchasing?
Thanks in advance.

From a parts interchangeability standpoint, There are many differences between the original Armalite AR-10, the modern AR-10 made by the company that owns the AR-10 and Armalite names, and DPMS .308 AR type rifles.

-Are all AR10 mags compatible? No. The original AR-10 magazines are not interchangeable with the modern Armalite AR-10 magazines. DPMS and SR-25 magazines are modeled after the original AR-10 magazines, and are not interchangeable with modern AR-10 magazines.

This thread is your best friend.

I got my AR10 A4C (16" barrel) for $1200. But I got mine from a "kitchen table FFL", who has no overhead.

Armalite is probably your best bet, just because they've done a lot of work to tune their rifle with their mags for reliability and have a lot of top-quality parts. Mags ARE expensive and occasionally hard to come by for the Armalites, though.

DPMS has been in the 308 game for a while, so they are also a good option. But the parts do not necessarily interchange...DPMS and Armalite can't really swap uppers and lowers.

Many other makes have tried to do a 308 rifle, but most of them try to adapt their rifle to use FAL mags, instead of building it from the ground up. Most have failed. I don't know much about Rock River's attempt yet.
