Has anyone done any business with AR500 Armor? Is their body armor good quality? Is there a way to tell, maybe a certification like UL or ISO, that body armor is good quality? I'm new to body armor (was in back in the day of flak vests), so input is appreciated. UPDATE: Thank, Noki. I'll look into the NIJ information. It is also interesting what you wrote about AR500. I'll approach them wearily. Oh, and for those upset that there are other threads, I don't spend a lot of time on ARFCOM. Even if I did, if I did something wrong, it is up to a Moderator or Site Staff to approach me. Until they do, I'll post as I see fit. |

Yes, there are standards for protection and testing promulgated by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ.) Certification of compliance with the NIJ specifications is carried out by approved laboratories. AR500 "armor" manufactures often make the claim that they meet NIJ specifications, but fail to deliver on the evidence of testing. |
