| My first suppressor is at my FFL, pending my BATFE approval. My question is, for you gents and ladies who use suppressors, is replacing the forward assist with the gas vent a good idea, bad idea, or no real difference? Real world answers greatly appreciated. The can is an AAC 7.62SDN, I have a NM A2, an M4orgery, and a 26" heavy barrel varmint rig. |

Quoted: I'm in this situation too.... I hear the RTV silicone and AR vent gas works best! If you have the extra money, you can get the PRI charging buster AND AR gas vent. Thats if you don't ever use your forward assist. That's the combo I run on my 10.5" gun. I like the combo, and would do it again. |

While waiting on my Gemtech Quicksand to be approved, I shot suppressed AR's of friends with suppressors mounted. The AR's were in .22lr, 9mm, 5.56, and 300 Whisper. Suppressor were .22lr, 9mm, 5.56, and 9mm respectively. I experienced no gas in the face. All used standard uppers and charging handles with no special or added parts. I've now shot 3 of my AR's with my suppressor, calibers 300 BLK (subsonic and supersonic) and 5.56 (supersonic). Maybe cuzz I wear glasses or maybe just lucky, but I've not experienced gas in the face or at least didn't notice it. No tears in the eyes; no oil or residue droplets on my glasses. What I'm saying is perhaps you need to try your's first before spending $ on something that may not be needed.
Notes: My suppressor is 30 caliber, so that could be a factor in not noticing gas in the face when shooting 5.56mm suppressed. All shots fired were semi-auto. |

Thanks for the inut. I will probably get the gas vent, as I do not believe in the forward assist(if it doesn't work the first tiem try to SHOVE it in???). My can will also be a .30 caliber, and I hope the combo will insure a total lack of drama form gases. Yeah I think forward assist was meant for people who don't clean or in the mud and sand rolling around. I will never have that issue so AR gas vent is genius! |

Thats if you don't ever use your forward assist. This is my combo. It works well for me. I havent mod my AR yet but I think its just a messy but it gets the job done perfectly, even better than PRI charging buster. I will go the expensive way, I love my AR too much to be slapping goo stuff on my AR. |

I've talked to Larry Vickers and the designer of the AR Gas Vent (Simplistic Shooting Solutions) about trying to maintain foward assist functionality... but it's just not possible with that confined space.
I've never need to use the forward assist with a proper setup with a Sprinco spring and correctly weighted buffer depending on the barrels. (H to H3 depending on gas port and suppressor properties). I prefer RTV silicone sealed charging handles with the AR Gas Vent as the vent provides a large channel for high speed blowback gasses to to. The vent is also aimed fowards, and you'll notice brass land a bit further forward, and less ejection port gas blowing backwards. Standard, BCM, and Rainier Raptor charging handles are tight. The PRI M84 has a slight gap on the lower receiver side, but the PRI gasbuster charging handle also benefits from RTV silicone sealing. Main for RTV silicone sealing is to apply a release agent (I use car wax) to the underside and sides of the upper before applying RTV silicone... as well as thoroughly degreasing the handle area. |
