I'm a bit confused what I will need to do to make my AR compatible with a suppressor.  Will I need to replace the barrel or simply have it threaded?  If it's the latter, what's the ballpark cost on that?  Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks for your help.

If you have a factory threaded barrel with a non-permanent flash hider on it, you're good to go - just spin off the old flash hider and spin on the new thread-mount can or QD flash hider.

If you have a perm flash hider or no barrel threads at all, you need to either have it threaded or replace it with a threaded one.

What kind of rifle do you have?
Specifically, what type of barrel?

If you are getting a QD mount can, I would bring in your rifle to your dealer prior to purchasing to ensure that no other costs are involved (ie threading, removal of comp etc etc)

There is also a little bit more to a QD mount then threading it on.

I have a RRA Entry Tactical upper.  Is that a perm flash hider?

Looks like just a basic A2 flash hider...should come right off...

True, but when you get the can you also get instructions on cleaning the threads with laquer thinner,  using RockSet, not using washers if possible, peel washers if needed, torquing it down etc. Not rocket science.

Dumb question but what is "QD"?  Quick Detach, correct?  And what other types of cans are there?  Pros/Cons?  Thanks again for everyone's help.

Your basic options are direct thread mount (AAC Ranger II) or Quick Detach (AAC M4-1000/2000/SPRm4/etc). SWR, OPS inc, Knights, Surefire and others make the same types of cans too.

After that, you have the basic can that extends past the muzzle (most) and reflex cans that use some volume behind the muzzle to tame pressures. (AAC SPR/M4, OPS cans, etc)

The next layer of confusion is construction materials - plain stainless, iconel, and other exotic metals & alloys.

trust us - there's a can for almost any size wallet. ;-)
