So who is considering other platforms due to unavailability of 5.56 and AR parts? I find myself craving a P90.

Yes, because 5.7 x 28 ammo is so easy to find.

Decided to add a few more m1 garands to the collection

I think you mean PS90. A P90 is full auto.
The PS90s are avalible but are way pricey lately. More so than AR15s.

You could always add a shotgun to your collection if you don't have one.

They are cheap too.

This.

Regardless of what else you own.  Everyone should own a good pump shotgun.

An AK you wont need replacement parts and you can get it in 5.56 that accepts AR mags or go all original.

Should have stocked up on ammo/parts/mags and spare uppers/lowers and BCGs in early 2008/12

PS90 sucks. Only thing that makes the P90 good is the restricted ammo and FA.

I got mine its a gen 1

there is no otherway to scrach that icth- it keeps me from building a lightweight ar. It has its short comings but is awsome

Horseshit. It's a great little platform. Very well designed and a hell of a lot of fun to shoot. But it's true, the ammo is a bitch to find and afford.

If not ARs - and there are other platforms besides ARs, as shocking as that concept is to many here - I like pistol caliber carbines. Thompsons, PPSh-41, etc. And 9mm carbines are cheaper to shoot.

this for sure.  I love my mossbergs. I have a 930 24" with a 8 round tube for 3 gun and a 500 20" with a 7 round tube.

I got a pump action. I have an obsession with light and small black rifles. I know 5.7 is hard to find but I'll just reload. Maybe a 9mm AR

Tell me how a PS90 > .300blk?
Well designed and fun to shoot is not relevant to the OP's request of a commonly available weapon. 5.7 is less common than 556 ATM.

I get what you are saying. A lot of us are not weekly shooters. Or spend thousand's a month on ammo as well.
I'm Not.

My next couple of purchase's will prolly be a lever gun in .357/.38.
Picking up some C&R stuff that I've been putting off.

I like the other poster on 9mm carbines or conversions. Then gear, mag's, ammo, food and water preps.

I think with the FSA, the fiscal cliff shit, there will be more reason to get your preps in order than future gun purchases.

I'm slightly confused by your double negative but I assume you mean that you don't spend a lot of time/money on the hobby (out of necessity, not because of other reasons). I would love a Marlin .357 with a Smith 686 to go with it. Probably also a .44mag revolver/lever gun combo!

Do spend a lot of time in our Hobby. Just not with the gun in my hand.
Research online, lots of research. Forums for all the variety of weaponry, safe's, gear, food storage. As well as political sites researching new laws and how they are going to affect my Fam.

Before I bought my house, and got married ( within 2 months of each other ), I shot 4-6 times a month. Did a lot more hands on with groups and active within other forms of our hobby. But now, just dont have the time with keeping up on a house, more bills, 2 nephews eating me out of house and home, Xmas just came and went, then there is our Anniversary and her Birthday. The time invested in our hobby for me is all just in the form of research, with not enough hands on. This year is my hope to get some of that changed. More range time, more weekday shoots and meeting other forum members. AZ is a great place for getting much more involved.

SIG 556, HK 93 are good alternatives, even a GASP Mini-14!

right now it seems there are still magazines for HK 91 series rifles at fair prices. That would most likely be my diection at this time. spare parts seem to be availbe also. bolt heads, rollers, ect, ect. that would be the cheapest setup at this time.

Be careful relaoding for that cartridge. You can only safely fire it twice. After that you're risking it.

For now I'm saving my cash for optics and finishing my AAC 7.62SD build.
Been on a buying spree with rifles the last few years and never put optics on a few.
I'm sure the S&W revolvers and marlin rifles will still find me but I'm trying to finish any projects I can without paying higher than normal prices.

In this madness

only pistols, bolt guns, shotguns seem stable in price. Here Pistol prices are down as people are trying to raise funds for AR rifles by selling pistols.

What about a lever action 357, really fun to shoot and if you reload can be a real BB gun.

You could get a FAL. It's the first Black Rifle know as "The Right Arm of the Free World". I like to call them The Freemason's rifle, they are everywhere but you never do see them.
