I dont know if this is something to worry about or not but on 2/29 I paid for my suppressor from a local dealer.  On 3/1 I sent the paperwork in with a check to Atlanta.  It is now 5/30 and the check has not been cashed.  On my last suppressor the check was cashed as soon as they got it and on my SBR application the same thing, as soon as the got the paperwork the check was cashed.

I have not got any return mail.  No notifications.  And my dealer has not heard anything.

Is this normal?  Does it mean anything?

I can call them but Im sure its a long time to wait on the phone...  What would I ask?  Is there a contact person there that people deal with?  I know there is an email address for when applications get denied that you guys post.

NOT normal at all. They usually cash it within 2 weeks or so and then wait for the approval... They do like their $$$.

ETA. Do you have tracking # for the envelope that you sent. Did you check that to see that it was delivered?

No, that is not normal at all... My last 3 stamps the funds were deposited/charged the same day the mailer was received

I would give them a call @ (304) 616-4500 and check the status

Next time I would also recommend using the CC form, its charged by the ATF at the time of receipt.  One less thing to get lost in the pipeline, plus you can get cash back or points

Yeah, don't send them the MO next time.
I always write a check just so I can see when it is cashed.

Honestly, every time I submit Form 4 for a stamp they cash that sucker the same week.

They are 2 months behind entering forms into the system but BoA takes the money within a few days of receipt.

And now you know why it's easier to write a check, or, now that it's an option, a credit card.

Do it. The government gets to eat the merchant fees and you get reward points on your card. Win-win.

Anyone else have the cc fees not hit immediately? I sent in three Form 4s a few weeks back (all in the same envelope) and had 2 get charged within a few days and one that still hasn't hit.

Apparently they can't tell me anything, ie which ones were charged and which one wasn't for at least a few months

My last packet I sent in April had a F1 and a F4, both with separate CC payment forms, and they were charged the same day the mailer arrived

Pretty sure you can just put all the fees on one CC form, but since the forms may go to a different examiner/office I didn't feel comfortable doing so.

Not sure why they would charge two and not charge the third...

You must've used some old forms. F1s & F4s all go to the same place now.

No I was referring to after arrival, such as different examiners ect

Probably should have worded that better

I wish they (the ATF) would just admit to that when you call in to check the status rather than make up BS excuses . I called just now to check on four form 4's you all submitted for me for cans I bought at the end of December. They gave me "received" dates of February 10th/11th The woman than said I shouldn't be calling in yet because it hasn't been 5 months. She also stated that I shouldn't expect anything until the end of July. I explained that I had purchased my suppressor at the end of December so it most certainly had been 5 months. He response was that everything processes within a few days of being received and they checks being cashed so my SOT must have sat on my forms. Knowing how you all work, I politely called BS and told her to have a nice day.

So I guess their (The ATF's) "5 month processing time" is from whatever magical date they make up as the "received" date. Then tack on another 30+ days to receive your stamp after they approve it.

They all get processed for payment at the same place before the ATF even touches them. So if they make it to the ATF the payment has already been completed. I would be worried BoA fat fingered the 3rd one and rejected it. A few people have complained they do this with CC numbers and don't try again.

Also there is a chance your CC number might get compromised before the form is processed.

BoA likely has a machine to scan and process the check so there is no human error. Same thing they have at tellers and you use when doing a mobile deposit. I would advise only going with a check to be safe.
