Is it possible to get an AT-4 trainer, that shoots 9mm tracers? I was talking to a class 3 dealer who said it's possible and he'd make calls if I wanted to buy one. I'm just curious how one would find one and how much, I just didn't want to waste his time by not buying something.

Yes it is possible to find one, but the ammo has never been sold on the open market so you have to make your own.

Also, the subcliber trainer has never been sold or surplused in complete condition.  You  might check the US Government surplus auctions near Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms....as that is whereI have seen demilled AT4's offered for sale.

Check on line searches and you will find the training manuals.

R. Lee Ermey did a nice show on the old Mail Call program showing the Marines test firing the AT4's with the subcals in 9mm tracer.  It was nicely done.

Also, the subcaliber unit would be considered a firearm, I guess like the Gun Parts RPG  rifle barrel inserts.

We got to shoot them at Ft. Lewis this summer. Definitely a blast.

Never been in the .mil and never shot an AT4, let alone a trainer...buttt..a quick google search seems to indicate that the round (9mm M939) is simply loaded with a lesser charge to simulate a heat warhead and the tracer element to..well i guess to show where it went. SO, maybe the hardest part is just finding the subcal kit?

god knows I'd love to fix up my law subcal kit to shoot something worth while..hmm..puts thinking cap on..

Where did you pick up a law subcal kit?

I shot some tracer trainers before. But I'd rather shoot an 84mm rocket that costs thousands and makes a boom rather than shoot some 9 mils that cost pocket change

I remember asking a cadre sgt. what would happen if I shot those rounds out of my pistol. He said that it might blow out the barrel. I wonder if that's true. They were cool looking rounds,if I remeber correctly, they were blue-tipped. Kinda looked like the Glazer safety round. Remember those?

The trainers the OP is talking about shoot standard FMJ 9mm ammo or 9mm tracers. Nothing special about the ammo at all.

Gun show, probably 15 years ago or so..The launcher aint in that great of shape, but easy enough to pull the kit and put into another.
