Id like a hard case that is low profile maybe a different tennis case like the ones mentioned in other threads. This would allow it to be legally carried and transported in NY if it can be locked(either comes with one or install one).

.Are looking for something discrete or something more secure ?

Discrete that fits the min legal requirements to carry. As far as I know it only needs to be in a locked hard case.

Get an orange Storm or Pelican case like photogs use for their camera gear.  Orange or yellow is best.  Hide it in plain sight.  Put some Nikon or Canon stickers on it.

Id prefer something light weight like the thin plastic cases like the ones used on ATV's.

Pelicans are just to heavy my idea is something easily carried

Don't do this.  Someone will be stealing your camera and get a hell of a surprise.  You want it to get NOT stolen instead of trading for stealing something even easier to get cash for.

Yup want it to look like something no one wants. To bad dressing it up like a jug of smallpox would get my dog shot.

Only thing i can think of that is hard sided and looks different and could have locks would be an instrument case, violin, small guitar etc  ,   Do you want to carry it broken down for a smaller size ?

I think to the average criminal looking to score a quick buck, anything worth putting in a locked hard case is worth something to someone. So, I am drawing a blank trying figure out a hard case that nobody would want to see the inside of.

just add a few of these on the case and you'll be fine:

Its be great to have something like a kydex sheath with a hinged end that opens then stuff that in a tennis case. legal and low profile.

does it have to be locked if it's disassembled?  could you just remove the barrel?

I dont think removnig the barrel would make a differance but id like to keep it assembled minus magazine

Actually, that's not a bad idea. The reason being is when I was working at a Pathology company I use to run the company truck between the hospitals and our labs. Our truck was broken into one night and the bastards took just about everything that was not bolted down out of the truck. Except for the one case that was used for tissue samples that it was marked like the above. They did not touch it or even open it!

I guess they thought the bird flu was inside....
