What is the purpose of the bracket riveted on this ARMS mount that came with my FAL? If the cover is installed then I can not remove the bolt/carrier and it looks like the bottom of the bracket just might touch the rod when the carrier is all the way back . It has been mounted to the rifle to test the fit but it never has been on the rifle when fired .

I believe the purpose of that tab is too provide tension/pressure against the recoil plate to help keep the mount tight. It is also used to attach the recoil spring guide on the para model.

This.

The para model has a spring guide there, but is basically a separate model, you'd have to replace the back plate assembly to change it, and its riveted in, so not trivial to do.

They are good mounts FWIW, I used one for years.

So in other words, it's a bad thing to remove the tab thingy?  I've been tempted to remove it so I can field strip the rifle with the mount in place if I feel so inclined.

Some folks do cut the rear tab off with no ill effects reported.

I decided to leave mine on.

My ARMS seems to hold zero really well when removed/replaced anyway.

Thanks for the replys. It fits really snug and a pain to take off so I'm thinking of drilling out the bottom of the rivet , taking the bracket off and reinstalling the rivet to plug the hole.

I removed mine, for cleaning purposes; so I didn't have to remove it ever time I pulled the BC....one less thing to worry about.
