I am looking at getting the SS Vang Comp follower for my 590, and also upgrading the spring as well with a Wolf spring.

-What other spring manufacturer options do I have?

Also, I noticed that the stock spring is I guess you'd call it progressively wound, it starts small and gets larger. Do the new mag springs do that too? I know you'd have to shorten it, but how would you do this with it needing to narrow back down?

-Also, the end of the mag tube on the Mossberg, there is a spring retainer, does this stay in there, or have ppl removed it? It seems like a pain in the ass.

Thanks guys.

The Vang followers are excellent and the Brownells brand is also.

The Wolff shotgun springs are one of the best. Cut it to about 6" past the bbl. Then shape the end you cut so it matches the rest of the spring. Put the end you cut at the muzzle end.

You don't need the spring retainer but it keeps the spring from fly out everytime you screw the end cap off. Chuck it if you want to.

Sweet, I'm def. chucking the spring retainer, took me damn near 5 minutes to get out.

I think I'm going to pick up the Vang Comp SS follower.

And I'm still not sure what you mean by shape the spring, just cut and file it so it doesnt have any burrs? Because I dont really think its feasable to actually bend the end of the spring to make it a smaller diameter on the end.

Thanks for your responses tho MAX100

I believe he means reshape as in having a full circle for the spring to push against. If you know what I mean.

No, that actually made it worse, a full circle for the spring to push against? As in, just file and round the cut edge of teh spring? That's the only thing I could figure you could do to it.

You have the spring you are working on in front of you, I don't. You can tell what needs to be done.

Some springs I have cut have a big gap between the links. I try to bend the cut link inward a little and bend it down close up against the next link so the cut end is not sticking up and out. If you put the cut end at the muzzle end it won't matter.
