Folks,

I am a newbie to AR-15.com and AR-15s and the NFA process in general. One thing I can say from the gate is that this forms process is ridiculous as many of you are witness to on a daily basis by evidence of your posts, mine included.

I am a Federal employee and I work at the agency that handles the retirement applications for all federal employees. Believe it or not that is a paper based manual system too. We too have a hudge case load with many more forms attached to support a retiremment application than a form 4 for example with an accompanying trust documnet attached. We have a comparable number of examiners if you will as compared to current BATF staff, and we get it done in about 6 to 8 weeks. Something is arry here.

I have written my Congressman and voiced my dismay. He has requested an explanation from BATF and their plans for an improvemnt. When BATF responds to his request I will post it here.

In parrell I am requesting a FOIA request from DOJ on all their BATF non-classified IT projects. This link http://www.itdashboard.gov/portfolios/agency=011 provides to the public what the Federal Governemt is doing in regard to upgrading and maintaining their IT Systems at BATF. The Presidents Office of Management and Budget (OMB) recently provided the passbacks for exhibit 53 (for minor IT Investments) and exhibit 300 (for major IT investments) for FY - 2012 and BY - 2013. Becuase there is no detail listed for BATF other than $123M, that tells me they are minor projects going on and would be found on an exhibit 53. Under FOIA I am requesting the exhibit 53 to see if they are doing anything to automate and streamline this process. I'll let you know what I find out.

If they are not doing anything in that realm, we should ban together and make ourselves heard that they should. We pay $200.00 everytime we want to get an item they deem as being an NFA. If there any leaders amongst us I would like to hear how we can organize and make ourselves heard. An organized petion drive to change this process would be my suggestion, unfortuantley I wouldn't know the first thing how to start one.

I think the main problem is that "they" don't want to speed up the process.

I sent correspondence to my state (TX) reps about this ludicrous NFA process just last week.
