Hi guys,

I've started to notice that the mag extension clamp on my 870 has really done a number on my barrel's finish, and the receiver rail seems to do the same regardless of how tightly I secure either.

I'm trying to find a clean way to seperate the metal-on-metal contact. I tried electical tape cut to sandwich between the contact, and it seems decent. Cuts cleanly and doesn't squish out when torqued down so you can't see it, but I worry the hot barrel will melt it. What do you use to minimize this rubbing and 'bed' rails, clamps, etc., especially against heat?

Cheers!

yeah, mine does that too. Unfortunately anything you put between the metal surface is likely going to lead to; A) failure of the components to hold together (electrical tape) OR B) make the parts so semi-permanent that they will not come apart easily for cleaning/maintenance (RTV sealant)

In the end, I just marked it down as normal wear and tear on a tool I use for home protection.

If you insist, try a VERY THIN coating of black RTV sealant. If you clean and then wipe down both surfaces with a oily film the dried RTV rubber will peal away pretty easily when you do want to remove the parts.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you see rust. Buddy of mine uses a rattle can on his Wilson 870
