hey guys, just wondering if any of you guys would be able to give me some ideas for this one. i was color filling in the safety engravings on my lower receiver and used my wife's nail polish remover that had acetone in it. the paint didn't rub right off but there is a light wipe mark. any advise would be much appreciated!
thanks! |

I did the nail polish thing to my PSA lower as well. The first time I did it, I didn't have any trouble with the red polish I used for the "Fire" but the white polish I used for "Safe" and the PSA emblem left residue everywhere. And it looked like rub marks. That was using nail polish remover with acetone.
I took it all off with pure acetone ( available in the same section as regular nail polish remover) and started over. There were no marks after using the pure acetone. What you are likely seeing is the polish from in the engraving continuing to be pulled out, or the excess that has been wiped off to continually be smeared around the area. When I had it happen to me I used several Q-Tips and paper towels and the pure acetone to remove everything. Once it was all gone, the "rub marks" were gone too. And the acetone didn't damage the lower in any way. Then I re-applied the polish, but in much lighter coats. Then I cut paper towels into strips and put the pure acetone on them and would only use it for 2-3 very gentle passes before folding it over or using a new piece. The gentle passes and new paper towels made it come out without the rub marks. I found that paper towels worked far better than cotton cloths for removing the excess white nail polish. The cut up t-shirts tended to lint too much. |
