I have an AimPoint pro on it. Like it a lot. But thought some distance with my older eyes would be nice. Like to keep the weight down also. So I was looking at an TA33 Green mosquito wings chevron. It’s a 3x30. Will the mount that comes with it , work out height wise ???? I have two Acogs. Both red chevrons. Will I like the green ?? Loaded question. Ha ha. Thanks for any feedback back. Attached File Watched a pretty good video on Acog colors and aiming designs. Really good information. But the crosshair design got one of the higher recommendations…. Yeah I get CROSSHAIRS…. It’s whatever all grew up using. But has anyone used them on an Acog ? I was leaning mosquito wings chevron. But the video definitely got me questioning myself. Attached File |

I have used the following ACOGs on various AUGs ... TA11H-G (3.5x35 Green Horseshoe) TA11H-R (3.5x35 Red Horseshoe) TA11J-G (3.5x35 Green Crosshair) TA31A-R (4x32 Red Triangle) TA31H-G (4x32 Green Horseshoe) The TA31H-G is ideal out of these. The bullpup design eliminates the short eye relief issue associated with the TA31. |

AUG lets you get the TA31 back far enough without having LOP issues, absolutely zero reason to use the long eye relief TA33, it's like looking through a straw. Plus you can always get TA31's for cheap. Other good option with a more lightweight emphasis is the TA50 3x24. Get the low mount version and slap it in an ADM cantilever mount, they've got a bunch of different heights. My preference is a TA31 and an IRIS-4 with the switch on the offset rail, one of the downward oriented charging handles, and a Magpul RSA between the LAM and ACOG. KNS discarder and your choice of suppressor to finish it out. Little heavy compared to an AR, but much better balanced. |

But I wanted to step down the magnification for this AUG. I do shoot both eyes open. The looking through a straw situation is my only concern. I have read with both eyes open it’s a nothing burger. I’ll soon find out. But I need an Acog for a SoCom. Definitely a TA31 F for it. Thanks for the reply. |

Before I get on my fighting rifle optic soap box here, here are two terms I made up for clarification of field of view because I have been making an argument for the TA33 being superior to the TA31 for a fighting rifle for going on 15-16 years now. Interior field of view - field of view through the optic Exterior field of view - your field of view around the optic I completely disagree, 100%. The TA31 will have short eye relief no matter what platform you mount it to. Because it’s so close to your face, it takes away from your exterior field of view. The only thing the TA31 is good for is static shooting, like from a hunting blind or on an observation post on a FOB where interior field of view through the optic is excellent and you need the large interior field of view for seeing as much as possible. The TA33 is like a magnified Aimpoint micro. Shoot with both eyes open. It’s so small you can see everything around you. Go use both at a run n gun event shooting from awkward positions. The TA33 kills it in every aspect. The TA11 is in the middle with a good balance of eye relief/exit pupil AND field of view but it’s getting into LPVO weight. The TA47 is also in this middle ground and has an excellent balance of both eye relief/exit pupil, interior and exterior field of view and lightweight, but that comes at a cost of low power 2x and no bdc (300 and 400 holds would be nice on the triangle reticle). The newish Primary Arms micro 3x prism is a good alternative to the TA33. It has a good balance of weight, eye relief/exit pupil, interior and exterior field of view and cost. For a fighting rifle, shooting with both eyes open the TA33 is still king of prisms and should have been the one issued in mass to military. Honorable mention to the TA47 and PA micro. I’ve owned almost every ACOG - 11, 31, 33, 45, 47 and every PA prism, Burris’, and a few budget ones. Originally Posted By WarDawg: You are correct .. I have a TA31 ( 20” ) on an AR15 A4. Great. Interior field of view is a nothing burger when you shoot with both eyes open. You’ll love it. Exterior FOV is entirely from your non dominant eye. By that metric, the TA31 is near equal to everything else, lol. But that doesn't help with what I'm talking about. My only eye relief issue is related to LOP. No, the issue with the TA33 is that when you snap the gun up, if you don't index perfectly on target, you end up having to hunt for it due to the small FOV through the scope, especially for small, or especially moving targets. This matters most for the 75 to 150 yard range, where getting rounds on target quickly is imperative. This issue does not exist with the TA31 due to the larger FOV, and furthermore, you can shift away from the scope and still get a usable sight picture. The barreling sucks, but there's another couple inches of eye relief that you can still get shots off with. The apparent FOV, the whole "scope is welded to your eyeball" effect makes that 4X give you much more utility since you can see more detail in your sight picture, and makes it feel like more than 4X. As an example, you can see if someone is wearing a chest rig or a plate carrier at 200+ yards, what kind of patches are on their gear, etc. That kind of detail in observation is its own utility. Not as great when moving, but if you're using the BAC, it doesn't matter, you're just trying to hit a torso-sized target at schmedium distances. I prefer to use a top dot, and rotate the gun to use the dot with my non-dominant eye. It takes a fair bit of practice, but it works a lot better than BAC. Moving on, for your use case, the TA50 makes more sense, it's a better TA33. You can choke up on it for better FOV, or shift away for better eye relief in weird positions. It needs to be the low version in an ADM cantilevered Mount, though, otherwise, the eye relief is a bit too short with the carry handle base. |

The problem with mounting a short eye-relief optic like the 31 on an AUG is that since the AUG stock has no adjustments, you are screwed if you wear body armor or have to shoot from non-standard positions. With an M4, you have some adjustment with the stock. Not so with the AUG. I liked using my TA011 (3.5X ACOG like the TA11 but with the LED illumination) but it does get a little heavy/bulky. Lately my favorite for the AUG is an Aimpoint (T2 or M5) with an Eotech 5X magnifier. The Eotech mag has an adjustable eye piece to compensate for my old eyes so I can use it with or without glasses. Through the magnifier, I can see the dot as a perfect circle for the first time in many years. And the 5X mag really helps vs 3X. Attached File |

I really like the TA33 and would put one on several rifles if money weren't an issue. They are lightweight and take up very little rail space. They are extremely durable and the illumination works well enough. I had one that sat on my main to-go rifle. I ended up trading it for something and never replaced it. The rest of the safe are mainly toys that I might rely on, so they get PA micro prisms. With that said, the PA Micro 3x is a fantastic optic for the money. I wouldn't even hesitate to use it as my go-to optic, but that's not what it's sold as. I'm ain't doing anything more than storing it in the safe and going to the range. The PA micro prisms are a low cost, high quality optic that you can afford to have multiples of. Especially if you find a deal on a used one, can't be beat moneywise. I have 3 of them currently and a 1x micro on it's way to me. I've paid less for all 4 than I would for a new TA33 and that includes an aftermarket QD mount or two. So I'm able to play dress up with 4 rifles for the same cost as a single Trijicon. I'm okay with batteries over tritium as well. I have the 'AUG with ACOG' that mom said we have at home in my safe. It's a Keltec RDB with a PA prism. It's a great setup for the money. I have literally paid less for it than a TA33 goes for brand new. It isn't an AUG and it not a go to war setup. But again, I'm a bottom feeder sometimes and this package offers a lot for the money. $600 for the RDB NIB, $175 for a used PA 3x prism, and $50 for used ADM cantilever mini-acog QD mount = cheap thrills that are way funner than it should be. Now I need to find a cheap can to put on the end of it and get it on a 4473 instead of a form 4. ![]() |

Looked at all the ACOG series and all of them (except the TA11) have short eye relief. Purchased a TA11 with the donut of death reticle and it's a great optic. The Elcan Specter is a really different animal. Generous eye relief and huge FOV. Have both / like both and one might end up on my AUG depending on how the factory optics perform. |

Problem with the elcan is that it's stupid expensive, and in the same weight category as an LPVO. Same contention I have with the battery ACOGs, and even the TA11 to a degree. I can get an P4XI, or accupoint 1-4, or even a 1-6 for a similar weight and have a native 1X. Then the only argument is rail estate, if you want to add a laser to a A3M1, you can't use a LPVO without changing out the rail itself. I haven't had issues with the TA31 on an AUG outside of wearing a ruck, it already doesn't play well with plate carriers due to the size/height of the stock. If you've got soft armor, it would definitely present issues, but otherwise, I Haven't had issues maintaining the same head position. YMMV. |
