I will soon have some play money available, will be about $2000. I'm looking at getting either a Fulton Armory M1A or a DSA SA 58 version. Costs are about the same, will want a good scope on it. I've already got a very nice Colt AR and a M1 Garand, so these are covered. Don't know much about the STG 58s either.

Suggestions? (Am also posting this in the M1A/M1 and FAL forums)

I don’t think you can go wrong with either rifle.

It sounds like your going for accuracy though. If that’s the case I’d tell ya to go with the M14. it’s not the FAL is not accurate, just that there has been a lot more R&D on the M14 in the last 40 or so years on how to make them as accurate as possible, the FAL has a lot of catching up to do.

If ultimate accuracy isn’t necessarily you first priority, you could go either way; they’re both great weapons.

Just my .02, but since you've got an original Colt AR, and an M1 Garand, I'm assuming made by either Springfield, Winchester, or H&R, I'd save just a little bit more and hunt down an original Fabrique Nationale FAL so as to maintain the posterity of your collection.  With a guns like those, as long as you take reasonably good care of them, they will always be worth more later on down the road from a collectiblity standpoint.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

Edited to add:  The DSA FALs are certainly fine rifles, as are, I'm sure, the FA M1As, the above is JMHO.

Personally, what I'd do with that money, and from the sounds of your collection, is to buy an STG-58(or any quality build - ORF comes to mind, too -instead of the higher priced SA-58), and an AK-47 clone like a SAR-1... Then spend any leftover funds on quality mags, and ammo... I think you'd be better served going that way, because I think that every serious gun owner should own an example of BOTH the FAL and the AK - and I don't think that an SA-58 is going to perform any better than an STG-58, or any other quality kit build(Imbel, G1, etc...) Just a thought...
