So here is where I am at.

While deployed I made the choice that I would do myself a welcome home present/birthday present of a 50.  At the time I could have affored a Barret, but felt that the model 95 was slightly over priced.  I didnt like the look/feel of the BA50.  I started looking into AR uppers and decided upon Tactilite's T2.  The primary requirement I had was that it was a magazine fed system.  I put the deposit down with Tactilite on 20July.  Was quoted 12-16 weeks for the product to be completed.  A month after the outside completion date I get an email from the owner stating that the demand had been higher than anticipated, etc.  They were in the process of doing a bunch of upgrades and in exchange for patience I would recieve the 2012 model for the same price as the 2011 (a savings of around 100$).  However, in December I still didnt even get a tentitive ship date.  I already purchased a SMOS arms single shot lower for this upper the week it was supposed to be completed.  I have the 500$ deposit into it, along with about 600$ into the lower as it sits now.  What should I be doing here?  The guy has been sketchy on returning emails, and is flat out IMPOSSSIBLE to get on the phone, Ive called alot and left messages to get zero return calls.  I no longer can afford to jump up to the barret, and Im somewhat over a barrel with the lower, as I doubt I could sell it for what I paid for it.

I really dont want to do a single shot upper, its just not what I wanted.  I recently noticed safety harbor on another thread and they seemed much more intent on CS when I called them.  However their product doesnt look to have the same fit and finish as the advertised product of Tactilite and others.  I wondered if anyone had experience with either as far as quality, and how perhaps how much longer I should be wating on Tactilite to get me a product?  Is there another option out there (staying in a mag fed)?

I think mag fed is highly over rated but until you've shot a light 50 you don't appreciate it. Repeated fire is just not realistic. I am pretty confident that I could do a 10 shot string with my single shot in about the same time as a mag fed.

I can't comment on the wait b/c I got my tactilite off of gun broker from a dealer, but I did have to call and get my bolt updated. I got through with no problem and talk to Michael Brendzel. He was a big help and very nice, I even email them I heard back within a two days. He did mention that they were very busy, sorry to hear you are having problems.

I hear you, when Tactilite was coming out with mag fed I waited and due dates got pushed back and finally went with a Safety Harbor. Quality seemed good and is fun.

I got the 18" barrel and weight is light enough that you can stand and shoot it. Standing and shooting a .50 makes your heart race a little. Empty a 5 rd. mag. while standing will make it race a little faster.

I've been very SLOWLY putting together a package that allows me to shoot with a .223 varmint upper and switch out to .50 BMG and went with the Tactilite T1 "duty".  It took longer than originally estimated, but Michael kept me informed instead of left in the dark.  My attitude is "take the time you need to do it right" and my upper is a real work of art.  It's perfect and my only gripe is that I don't have my scope yet and want to shoot it the first time with glass.

Be patient...  You'll be really happy when you box arrives and you open it.  Keep in mind that when you call Zel Custom you get to talk to a fellow who's enthusiastic about the product and never cuts the customer short on time.  I have no doubt that he winds up working late on a lot of nights to cover for being a small shop and being available to talk during normal work hours.

I think my biggest problem is that Im not talking to anyone, I cant even get a return call.

Oh well.  I am going to be patient, give him at least til the end of the month.

I know mag fed isnt anything, for me its more a matter of not wanting to deal with lose rounds, Id rather be able to pack 3 or 4 mags.  I am going with a 29" barreled upper, so the weight will be a bit higher than the 18".
