Anyone tried these?

I bought some of their mini slugs a while back. They did not feed well in my mossy 500.

I still have a couple boxes of them, they didn't feed well in my 870's either. I heard that they work ok in a Winchester 1300 but never had one to try it.

they work well in my defender 1300....that is specificly why I bought the defender.

You can modify the feedbamp on a 870 to make them run reliably, but then your stuff with them.

at 25 yards, POA/POI is the same as full size slugs out of the defender.

Ditto in the 590 or at least mine.

are the federal reduced recoil slugs a good substitute?  i would like to try some of those, but can't find any locally. sorry for thread drift,  i just picked up a used 870 for $150, might dedicate it to mini-slugs.  is there some info online about how to modify the feedramp? thanks.

I got some Federal Hydra-Shok & Truball right before I left for a roadtrip.  Whan I get a chance to burn some of them I`ll let you know what I think of them.

sounds good.  i am seriously thinking about building a dedicated HD slug gun.  i live in a rural area, so it would be good for varmit patrol when the huskies start barking in the middle of the night. nothing says Dead Right There like a 12 gauge slug.

I used these in a NEF single shot I have cut down to 18" and they are great! Recoil is non exsistent and accuracy isnt too shabby eather. I carried these on a deer drive two years ago and was able to kill a doe with them at 10yds.

Anyone have any updates on this ammo?

I now have a Winchester Defender 1300, I got it for a song since the thing was extremely hard to cycle. I could feel some sticky crap on the magazine tube. I got it home and broke it down, seemed to have adhesive from duct tape on the mag tube, under the fore end. Cleaned it up and now it works fine. A bit stiff yet, but it's a new gun.

I haven't been to the range yet but the mini shells cycle perfectly through this gun. I've pumped it fast, slow, upside down, vertical, it cycles them perfectly.  Best of all is the capacity,  12+1 with the mini shells.

Cole Distributing shows the ammo in stock, and I may buy some more. I only have one box each (20 rds per box) of 7 1/2 shot and a combo buckshot load of #1 and #4 buck.

This one may become my wife's home defense gun, once I'm satisfied that it runs 100% with this ammo.  7 1/2's for practice, buckshot for HD.

They run perfectly out of a Benelli Nova, at least in a limited test (only one box on hand) some years back (about four).

Reduced Recoil slugs give slightly better performance, but with the standard capacity of shells in the magazine, not several more like the Minis give you.

How many can you fit into a standard magazine tube?  It is either 5 or 6 tops I am thinking.  Aren't the mini shells still 2 inches each?

Performing some standard math, four of the 2.75" shells takes up 11 inches.  I have never tried to fit 3 inch shells into my shotgun.  Can you still get 4 of those in there?  If so, then the internal tube dimension is 12".  If not, it is 11 inches.

So you gain at most 2 extra shells, which is 50%.  At the very least, you gain 1 extra shell which is 25%.

If it has feed problems, I would suggest going with a full sized shell, as the increased capacity is not particularly stellar.

If my math is off due to ignorance of reality, please educate me.

I bought a used Winchester 1300 just to run them. They work !

I don't think I'd use them for self defense though. To me they are a novelty or for training new shotters due to their light recoil.

As others have said , they are a no-go in a mossberg 500

I use 'em in my Baikal SxS coach gun and 1300

.72 dia + 385 grains @ 1250 FPS=

They make nice clean full-wadcutter holes in the 10-ring out to 30 yards

it nearly dwarfs the mighty .45

Its now the end of January & I still havent made it to the range yet.  I want to try them out but work & family keep getting in the way.  When I finally make it to the range I will post what I think of them.

I see that Centurion makes a 2 inch load, 6 pellets of 00 buck.

The 1300 Defender ought to hold about 10 of those.

I'm thinking that my wife can have a home defense gun with enough capacity that she really wouldn't have to worry about reloading.

I can get 10 in the tube +1 in my Win 1300.

The mini slugs dry cycle fine but I notice if I tilt the weapon left or right slightly they want to jam up.

Also the my cycle rythm has an effect. If I pause before sending the shell home it somtimes gets sideways.

I've not fired any yet. Soooon.
