Is it possible to use anything other than lanolin to make
my own spray lube?  Will paste/wax style lubes like
Hornady's Unique dissolve and work as a spray lube?

I made some this weekend using a tube of Lee Precision Resizing Lube, and 16oz of 91% isopropyl alcohol. Shake it up real well. You'll have some chunks suspended in the mixture, but the majority of it will dissolve. It worked fine for me, once I figured out the proper amount to spray onto the cases.

Never used Unique, but when I was playing with the lanolin based home brew I couldn't find liquid lanoin, so I tried a product made by Medela which had some wax in it to make it solid. I had to warm it up to make it liquid to be able to mix it with the alcohol. After mixing the two, there was a layer of wax that settled on the bottom and would not dissolve unless the bottle was warmed again. I ended up pouring out the liquid part into another spray bottle and using it. I discarded the wax.
I've found a source for liquid lanolin and stay away from wax based products.

I found a "Natural Food" store 30 minutes away that has it in stock. Everyone locally has never heard of it.
I tried the Medela product because SWMBO had some left over while nursing the last child. I don't think the wax separation was from old product because I Googled using it and others reported the same issue.

ISO-Heet (the gas line anti-freeze) found in the auto section of

your local Wally World or hardware store is also 99% Iso.  Supposed

to work a lot better than the 90% stuff you get at the drug store for

keeping lube in suspension.  90% works fine, you just have to shake

it well before use.

I have used Neat's Foot Oil mixed with Iso-HEET with good results.

I don't remember the ratio but probably 1:6.

I've dissolved RCBS Case Lube II in alcohol with good results.  If you're going to make the lanolin-based stuff, get liquid lanolin; the solid stuff will work, but it's a pain.  I know from experience.

Basically, the lanolin stuff works because lanolin dissolves in alcohol, and can be thinned out nicely, which gives you a great way to very thinly lubricate your cases without lots of hassle.

1 bottle of ISO-Heet with 1 oz of liguid lanolin.  My local health food store special ordered the lanolin for me.  It arrived in 4 days and cost $8 for 4 oz.  Works great!

I had good luck with alcohol and Lee Case Sizing lube. I usually use Unique except when I have many cases to resize.

I use ISO Heet and Lee case lube. I put in a couple messed up bullets to help stir things up alot easier.

I made my own spray lube using ISO-HEET and RCBS 2 lube.  I think I have it mixed to a 10 to 1 ratio.  It applies easily with a pump spray bottle. evaporates quickly and the remaining lube comes off easy.
